Ok to use left eye?

I am left handed but shoot all my guns right handed(lucky for me cause left handed guns cost more). Everything else I do left handed such as writing, throwing a ball, batting. etc etc.

Anyways my question is it ok to shoot a pistol with my right hand but use my left eye instead of my right? I just find it more natural to close my right and use my left to see. I do not do this with rifles or shotguns but I find myself doing it with pistols. Am I doing anything wrong?

I agree. If you can hit what your aiming at. Im left handed also. I shoot pistol and rifle left handed but shoot a bow right handed. Go figure.

I am RIGHT handed and LEFT eye dominant.

you're fine. You're better than fine.

The best way to shoot a handgun is with both eyes open. Your dominant eye will guide the sights just as if you pointed at an object with both eyes open. In a tactical situation, closing one eye causes you to lose "half your world" via lost vision and peripheral vision from the closed eye.

It may take a few range sessions to feel comfrotable, but the payoff is huge. You'll be a better shooter and be able to see more around you.

I'm right handed, but left eye dominant. I shoot right handed, but use my left eye to line the sights up with handguns. I shoot rifles and shotguns right handed as well, and just use my right eye. There's nothing wrong with it. We all just have to adapt a little.

Im cross dominant as well, and like other people have said, its no big deal. I shoot long guns left handed (im right handed, just had to teach myself. And I still wear my expert badge :D ) and handguns right handed and never had any issues

Also cross dominant. I'm most comfortable shooting handguns right handed and sighting with my left eye. But, paradoxically, I'm more accurate shooting handguns left handed and sighting with my left eye. When I shoot right handed, I tend to place my shots slightly to the left of my POA. The problem diminishes when I think about it, but becomes a bit worse when I shoot instinctively. I can "cure" the problem by cranking my rear sight over to the right, but I find that solution to be aesthetically displeasing. So, I center my sights, use my left eye, and keep reminding myself not to shoot left. Works for me.

I'm in the same boat as you, freebird. As long as you're comfortable and bullets fly through center mass or the snot locker, there's no issue IMO...

I am another righty with a dominate left eye. I try to shoot with both eyes open but can't completely. Squinting helps and fortunately I can use either eye. Don't ask me how it works. Right eye doesn't focus as well between front and rear sites but better down range. Left eye is dominate, better down range but loses front site a bit. All in all, I make it work and am still an above average shot.

I find myself using my left eye a lot more even though I am right handed. It's just easier for me to keep that eye open I guess.

That's because you are probably left eye dominant. I am righthanded and shoot pistols accordingly. However, I shoot long guns lefty as it had always just felt more natural. I have tried to force myself to shoot rifles righthanded but it just feels very awkward.

Another righty who is left eye dominant. Since I was 8, I've shot right-handed rifles (as in bolts) left-handed (and find lefty bolts awkward! - go figure)...and shoot handguns right-handed but left-eyed.

Any particular reason why you are shooting right-handed if you are a lefty AND are left eye dominant?

Myself, and all the other left-handed shooters I've met, have no problems using a non-ambidextrous pistol. On my SIG Sauer, the decocker is easily reached with my left trigger finger without changing my grip. On my Ruger MK II, my S&W 59, or on a 1911 with a single-sided safety, my left thumb hits the safety just fine.

A single-sided magazine release is also easily reached with my left trigger finger.

If you're shooting well with what you're already doing, then that it fine. But being left-handed and left eye dominant, you could probably do better shooting lefty.

No problem shooting pistols like that. I'm right handed, but when I have to shoot weak hand, I still use my right eye to shoot.
On the other hand, using this method with rifles will not work.

binocular vision

Don't give up the advantages of bino vision and work hard at using both eyes.

But if your hitting well now, you're doing something right.

I'm right handed left eye dominant and shoot with my right eye. When I was young my groups at 25 yards were averaging 3". At 57 they are 4-5" at 25 yards which is the closest I will shoot. These groups are fired off hand. Certainly not bad I think most people would agree. I've been shooting for 45 years using my right eye and until the internet it had never concerned me.
