ok to use 209M primers instead of 209?????

Ok, been out of the black powder gig for a while and just picked up an encore in 209x50. I also snagged a lot of the triple 7 50/50 pellets on clearance from wally world and the Thompson Center Shock Wave Sabot 50 Caliber with 200 Grain Polymer Tip Spire Point Bullet.

After reading reviews I am going to start with 100gr (2 pellets) and work up from there.

My question is can I use 209M (CCI) primers or should I stick with regular 209 (CCI) primers. The whole reasoin i am asking is that I bought 2 boxes of primers and wasn't paying attention when the store clerk handed me the boxes and the bottom one was 209M and I already tried to take it back, but no returns even though they messed up and i would like to use them instead of being out the cash.
 
It's OK to use the CCI 209M primer with your 777 pellets. Those pellets can be hard to light because they do not have the black powder igniter on the end like Pyrodex pellets do.


BlackHorn 209 requires the use of CCI 209M primers for reliable ignition.
 
The hotter primers are known to increase the liklihood of developing a crud ring in the breech when used with 777 pellets. That could make loading & seating the projectile much more difficult and cleaning between shots much more of a chore. If you decide to try them with 777 pellets then be prepared for the worst.
On the other hand, the Blackhorn 209 powder is a type of very clean and consistent substitute powder that you might be interested in trying out in the future.
Why not save the magnum primers in case you ever decide to try out that new Black Horn 209 powder in the future?

I did not say it would not be okay to use these 209-Magnums, I said that they are not prefered. Look, eventualy you are going to settle on a lower powered primer, as part of your shot-string, anyway. Go ahead and shoot these up and get past it or give them away. Keep in mind that switching from primer to primer will have an effect on your groups. Your in-line is not as prone to hang-fires or mis-fires like a side-lock so even the reduced power 209, specifically recommended for M/L's will have no problems. I know quite a few shooters that still shoot #11's in their in-lines and have never had a problem. The hottest primer that I use, in my in-lines, is a musket primer. Range-time is in order and most of all, have fun !! ;)
