Ok..Tell me why I should give the Kel Tec another chance!

I've been looking at revolvers, but I'm at the point where I just can't quite shake the Kel Tec thing. I loved the light weight of the weapon but I will not tolerate an unreliable weapon. That's why I sold my last P32.

Ok folks..how many out there that have reliable P32's??

I'm seriously thinking of the revolver route, but I just might give the P32 another chance before I write em off forever as a backup carry/just can't hide a bigger gun type weapon.

My bud has one that hasn't missed a lick from the git go. Only a few boxes of ammo through it tho.

Carry problems ? I weigh bout 14o and for years carried gvt .45 and 4" M&P concealed. Equator to icy places.

I've gone to the KTOG website, did the fluff n buff and thought I had the problems weeded out.

It was a strange gun indeed. Sometimes It would shoot nice pie pan size groups..if you can call that nice at 15 feet, but then sometimes you would be lucky to hit a human silhouette target. All in the same shooting session. It would chamber just fine and hand eject just fine. You could run along with three mags full and then boom....jams. One empty stuck in the chamber and fresh round partially out of the mag. Ammo..UMC, Winchester White Box and Winchester STHP's. All the same problem.

If I had to guess I would think it was a weak extractor spring because I did polish the chamber smooth. Anyway..it's gone and I had no confidence in that particular weapon. To me it was jinxed. Perhaps another one will cure the jinx, but that one gave me a bad feeling, so sending it to the factory would not have helped.

For the same reasons you gave it the first chance....

Since others cite the P32 as surprisingly accurate, consistent, and reliable with or without the F&B, can you really handle being among the few, the proud, and the inept who can't master it? ;-)

Seriously, I doubt that you were limp-wristing your old P-32 and any pistol that earned a report like you posted has some structural problems. I would have harassed Kel-Tec a few times about it, and then sent it to them to either fix or replace. After all, it's either you or the pistol, and I really don't think it could be you... could it? ;-)

I have two P-32s, and a friend of mine also has one. We bought them all new a couple of years ago and sent the slides and barrels in to Kel-Tec for the hard chrome upgrade ($20 each I think). Mine never had a problem (and I've shot them quite a bit). My friend's had a few problems when he first got it (jammed fairly frequently), but after a couple of boxes of ammo through it, it seemed to break in and also become completely reliable. We generally use cheap surplus FN FMJ ammo (sort of a flat-nosed/almost semi-wadcutter bullets) for practice and S&B FMJ otherwise. Kel-Tec seems to stand behind their products, so I would definately give the P32 another try - chances are excellent that it will work perfectly, and if not, Kel-Tec will make it right.

I'm gonna keep mine!

I've owned two kelTec products: A P11 which was the worst gun I've ever owned (I'll spare you the sordid details) and a P32 which is practically the BEST gun I've ever owned. I tinkered endlesslyd with the P11 (ya know, fluff'n'buff, et al) and the P32 is box-stock with the exception of polishing the feedramp. I now carry a Taurus snubby from time to time but you can't beat the weight/concealability of the P32. Thus far (knock-knock) it has been 100% reliable; However, I still worry about it's longevity and reliability for obvious reasons. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to a Kahr mini 9mm. I've heard rumors they will be introducing the "MP9" at the Shot Show next month and I'll be in line for one.

I also have two P-32s. The first was an early one (SN below 500) and it had quite a few problems. It went back to Kel Tec which improved it, but the final fix seemed to be the hard chrome upgrade which replaced the slide and barrel. The second P-32 had some very intermittent problems when I first got it. After break-in the problems disappeared.

Both of my P-32s are 100% reliable now and I've tried lots of different ammo brands and types. I'm very glad I stuck it out through the early problems.

We currently have two P32s.
There is just nothing that come close in the size/power/wt ratio at present.
Around 600 rounds fired, all total.

Both have had work done on them though.
Just when I start thinking mine is reliable, the trigger fails to reset after firing a shot. I load another mag, start shooting, and may finish the session with no more problems.
(The gun has been to the factory twice for this problem.)

It has become a "only carry when you absolutely can't carry something else" gun.

Since putting a stronger hammer spring in my wife's gun, we have had no more light strikes with hers. She likes it, but now the wonderful P32 trigger is gone, because of the heavier spring.

I have heard that newer guns have better quality control.
You may get lucky!

As for me, I think my P32s days are numbered.
If the micro Kahr polymer 9 gets debugged, it may be history.

I've got a chromed model that had its first FTF a few days ago with Magtech FMJ - either a bad primer or a light strike. The primer had a nice deep gouge in it, so I figure it was ammo related. Other than that, it's been 100% reliable with everything I've put through it. The NAA finger extension modification to the mags makes it a lot easier to control.

I have heard from several sources that the later P-32's are much more reliable than earlier production. Mine has been fine. Serial number in the 48XXX range. What range was your problem child?

I am not going to try and Talk you into keeping it. I will take it off your hands, for a very small amount of money.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I have a P32 serial # 28XXX that was hard chromed when I bought it.
It was sort of an impulse buy, and I probably wouldn't have bought one if I had researched it properly, but I'm glad I got it. It's more of a neat little toy to me than a defense tool.
So far it has been 100% reliable with everything except Corbon (rimlocks)

I don't shoot it much anymore because of longevity fears (I have no reason to believe it will break, I just baby it because it seems so delicate!) My state won't let me carry concealed legally, but if I could, my Kahr MK40 would be carried a lot more than the P32. But, I have no reason not to trust the P32 and I would carry it if nothing else could be concealed.
It's good to have just incase, as a last ditch back-up. It's good to know there's a gun I can drop into any pocket at any time if needed.

With Kel-Tec it seems like you just have to get lucky, but if you do, you'll have a great gun!

My P-32 was reliable out of the box and has always been so, although I have fired it only sporadically. On the other hand, I had feed/ejection problems with my P-11. The factory replaced the barrel and now everything is fine.

Part of the fun of firearms is working out the problems. With the strong help of the Kel-Tec people, just about any K-T problem can be solved.

Anyway, can you find another 6.6 oz .32 or another 14 oz. 9MM with a 10 round mag? The cheap price and basically good design of the Kel-Tec's make it worthwhile to be patient and persistent IMO.

In my 30+ years of second guessing myself, USUALLY your second time proves that you were right the first time.
Hmmm..that's what I'm thinking.

I looked at a NAA .32 today. Lovely little thing, she's a bit heavy, but I'll just call her "Big Boned". Don't want to offend her and call her heavy. She may just be my new love! :D

Now if I could find a reasonably priced Kahr MK9...ohh the endless possibilities...

I just think Kel Tec has me a bit spooked for now. Thanks for all the replies!

Good Shooting
