Ok I finally did it...

bought a revolver that is. I had several to choose from and I must admit that I kept both the GP100 and S&W AirWeight out for quite sometime. However after a lot of turmoil and indecision I finally settled on the Ruger SP101. For carrying purposes it seemed to be just the right mix of durability, length and weight. The only holster they had was a $14.00 Uncle Mikes, and quite frankly I am not very impressed with it. (It is what it is though) Only thing it is really good for is to have something to put it in while by the nightstand. So here's my question: Anyone have some good advice on a holster that you would recommend for this particular gun? I am looking for either IWB or OWB, but it must be durable and contour well to the body. I am really thinking about carrying this revolver quite often. Also, as I am fairly new to revolvers, are there any issues with AD in relation to holsters with open tops, and the hammer snagging on something then hitting a round? (Kinda newbie question I know, but hey we all start somewhere.) As always, thanks in advance for the great advice!

I don't own any Ruger revolvers, but since Bill Ruger was one of the pioneers of the transfer-bar safety, I cannot imagine the SP-101 doesn't have one. AD for the hammer snagging on the holster really shouldn't be a problem if it does have a transfer bar.

All modern DA revolvers (meaning those made shortly after 1900) have safety devices that won't allow the firing pin to contact the cartridge unless the trigger is fully pulled to the rear. So don't worry about the hammer snagging causing an AD.

These folks have several brands at decent prices. I use the Don Humes brand.
