After much consideration we decided to set up a HD shotgun strickly for my wife. She wanted small, small, small. Her size not my size fit.
She is barely 5 ft tall in her shoes. Very short arms. 100 pounds soaking wet. No matter how short the LOP on the many guns she has shot she always says she would like it shorter.
So we have this new Mossberg 500, 20 ga. and we decided to set it up for her with the smallest dimensions possible.
Purchased a Hogue youth 12" stock (they will fit the mossberg 500, 20 ga.). With it the LOP came out to be 11-3/4 inches on the 20 ga. It has a 26 inch barrel for targets or hunting, but we have it fited with a 18-1/2 inch 20 ga barrel for HD. With the short stock and 18-1/2 inch barrel on it she loves it. Best fit ever, first fit that really fits her she says. The overall length with the Hogue stock and 18-1/2 inch barrel is just under 36 inches. It is light but she says the kick is much less than she is used to. I can only attribute that to the proper fit. She likes shooting it with the 26" barrel also for targets, but with the 18-1/2 inch barrel she is all smiles. Still looking into the EZ Reach forearm for it with Mossberg but after getting this set up the reach is pretty good for her the way it is.
Actually for HD this shorty is nice for me also. I wouldn't want to hunt or shoot clay targets with it but for HD it is a peach.
Wana know the best part---- she says leave this gun just as it is for her and get another one and set it up how I want it for myself.

P.S. - For anyone who has not done it before - remove the Mossberg stock bolt with a 1/2" socket and extension not a screw driver. They must have a very large person that tightens these suckers on at the factory in Texas. The screw driver will only bugger up the bolt head that has a soft worthless slot in it in addition to the bolt head for a 1/2" socket.
