Ok help me decide.....

Pardner Pump.......

Here is why I say that,

1. Steel Receiver.
2. Metal Trigger Guard.
3. Remington made Barrel
4. Positive Cross Bolt Safety.
5. Effective Recoil Pad.
6. Sling Swivel Studs Installed.
7. Robust Reliable Action.
8. 5 + 1 Capacity.
9. Composite Stock
10. Reasonable Price.
11. No need to add a mag tube extension to use an ElZetta tactical light mount.

I've posted more info, photo's, and videos at my Facebook page and blog.

I want to say maverick but I personally would put away a few more dollars and buy the 500. Seen many used looking like new for $200.

The upgrade would mean tang safety and upgraded forearm to accept many customizable parts.

Good point Blindstitch, just don't order 1 sight-unseen. The pinned forends are starting to show up on 500's as well. An order from Brownells can change this, but it's about a $100 minimum upgrade.

Jeff

I have both and one cannot go wrong with either.

That said, the "Norinco" simply rebranded to circumvent the Chinese weapons ban is IMO more durable in every respect. Heck, I would even select it over an NIB 870 (which is essentially what it is) much less a Maverick or even outright 500.

Bottom line is it is a freaking tank and when you hold it you will understand. But the absolute kicker here is the price which is a virtual steal.

100% agreed PT92. H&R Pardner Pumps are built like tanks.

I would never choose a Maverick over a Pardner. The safety on the Maverick is difficult for a LH shooter like me to manipulate.

Here in Arkansas, either can be had from Academy Sports for $190. Both have a proven track record and are well covered in the accessory department. It seems to me that it's whichever 1 the shooter prefers.

That said, I'm really happy with my new Winchester SXP Defender.

Jeff

I own both.

They are fairly equal---except for a couple things:

The Pardner is much heavier

The Maverick has an extremely long LOP---I butchered the factory pad in an attempt to shorten it----finally bought a Limbsaver pad which helps a bit--but its still long--the fit is MUCH better than the factory pad, which was off a bit---the Limbsaver fits the stock perfectly------having been looking at another stock---but that would put me in 500 cost---thinking I should have just bought a 500 because the fit is so much better. The Pardner fits me quite well.

US vs Chinese made

The Pardner is well made despite its Chinese origin.

Actually, I have 2 Pardners--a Field model and a Protector model---I was trying to limit my comments to the Field models but I do have an extra 18in barrel for the Maverick that turns it into a defense model--other than the forend.

The only mods I've done to the Pardners is replace the crap plastic followers with aftermarket metal ones for the 870---just make sure you get one with cutouts to get past the dimples in the mag tube.
