An Ohio firearms concealed carry instructor, who unintentionally shot a student in class was charged yesterday with a misdemeanor charge of negligent assault.

This case points out the importance of being aware of where your muzzle is pointing. Muzzle direction is the primary safety of safe gunhandling; always has been and always will be.

Actually, if you read the initial report, it appears muzzle direction was not the main culprit. The bullet ricocheted. The main culprit would appear to be failing to check and double check a gun to see if it is unloaded. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/public/2013/08/12/concealed-carry-accidental-shooting.html

Fairly moot point I guess, but I'll make it all the same... wonder what the outcome for the responsible party would have been if the gent who was shot sustained a more serious wound. Fortunately, in this case, it was down to "accidental shooting" and no charges were filed.

This is why NO ammunition should be allowed in the classroom. Too many instructors think that rule applies only to the students, but there's a reason why the rule says "NO" ammunition.

This is also the reason why I favor using dummy guns or guns with the firing pin removed for classroom demonstrations.
