Ohio CHL Situational Questions

Hey guys, I'm building a website where I hope to address the legality of many Concealed Carry situations in the state of Ohio.

I am a certified NRA pistol instructor and many people ask me all kinds of different questions regarding the legality of certain situations when I am teaching the basic pistol course.

So I invite you to ask any questions, (even if you know the answer), so that I can make a complete list for new guys.

Thanks in advance!

Can I fire a warning shot?

What caliber should I carry? (IMHO, any quality equal to or greater than 38 SPL or 9mm for a trained shooter is the answer - but there are other concealment or physical ability circumstances).

What do I say to the law when they arrive?

How should I train or practice?

Fun:

Should I carry a CCW badge?

I live in my Mom's basement and she won't let me have gun. :(

My wife or girl friend won't let me have a gun, what should I do? :o:o

Where can I carry?

I wish my instructor better explained where you can and can't carry. Found it very confusing.

what can happen if my holster rides up and other people see my gun?

What states honor the Ohio licence?

When I am pulled over do I have to tell the police that I have a gun or show them my licence?

Can I legally conceal more than 1 gun?

Do I need a licence to carry a large knife?

pros and cons of different types of carry?

Is it ok to Carry an NFA weapon?

Can I carry my concealed weapon when hunting with a rifle or a bow?

Do I need to verbally tell an asaliant that I am armed before I pull the gun... or trigger?

how often should I practice with my weapon?

is there a law about carrying a weapon while intoxicated?

some of these are more obvious but I think they are questions I would ask if I was new to shooting and did not know what the CCW/CHL was all about.

Hey guys these are all great! Keep them coming!

One situation I was asked about was, "What if I have to run into a post office, but my no-legged wife is in the car and she DOESN'T have her license. Do I leave my firearm in the car, leaving her at risk of prosecution? "

Anyway, there are so many situations I'd like to hear some more that you would think would be good to address. Even if you know the answer send them anyway!

Hmmm. Ohio is kind of weird for some of this stuff. Maybe address the holster requirement. When I lived there that drove me crazy...I like to carry just tucked in my waistband (less print, more comfortable) but the law requires a holster (something about gangbangers not using holsters or something). Maybe be able to address what constitutes a holster (bellybands, IWB, pocklet holsters, etc.) under the law. Also, further instruction on where you can't carry that might not be obvious (Chipotle for instance because they sell beer).

At what stage of an altercation should I pull my weapon?

If I have to shoot, how many times should I pull the trigger?

Can I OC in Ohio?

Does a person have to physically assault me before I can defend myself with a gun?

Should I practice shooting with my offhand?

Are revolvers or semi-auto's best to cc?

Should I cc a larger caliber ccw in the winter(due to heavy clothing) then in the warmer months?

Is it safe/adviseable to mix ammo in the same mag of my semi-auto ccw, ie. LRN and JHP or SWC and JRN?
