Now there could be a whole bunch of different discussions relating to this topic. All concerning firearms and things like that. Please try to keep it on track with the topics this forum allows.

My question:
This gentleman was a Firearms dealer who just didn't renew his license. Wouldn't that exempt him from the weapons charge since he would have had those weapons (full autos and such) registered when he was a dealer. Or they would have been registered to his father (who's house they were taken out of) and could have been transferred to him. Did the ATF really need to file a weapons charge against someone just for possessing these weapons that he likely received in a legal way.

My Concern (and yes it deals with firearms)
I know that almost anyone can get an exotic animals license. I had one when I lived in NJ years ago for a few exotic snakes that I had. But when I got my license I had to list all of the exotic animals that I was keeping and be open to inspections if the powers that be wanted to come and inspect the place. Shouldn't there be some type of state/federal mandate that when someone keeps exotic animals that are "large" (not talking about your 5' Burmese python here) that the local/county/state LE in that area should be equipped with equipment pertaining to those types of animals. Things like (and here's the firearms part) - non-lethal arms such as net guns, tranq guns and even some traps/cages. Even if they are required to be furnished by the person keeping the exotics as a "tax" for keeping those animals. I think had the LE in the area had something like this (tranq guns for instance) they could have avoided a large loss of exotic animals.

In theory, my local police department, Fairfax County, Virginia, has some justification for having an elephant gun on hand because every now and then, the circus comes to town.

See i would see this as something different - where the circus should be keeping the equipment needed with them since they travel around from place to place. There would be no reason for bumblesburg tenn. to have this type of equipment on hand if no-one there has these types of animals and they only get a visit from the circus once a year. BUT lets say someone in that town has a pet lion, then the owner should supply the local LE with the proper equipment to contain the animal should it escape. Or the LE should make sure they have it.

In the case in question - they knew the person had a large number of these animals. They were trying to get the animals removed. One person is quoted as saying it wasn't a matter of "IF" it would happen but "WHEN". Why didn't the LE in the area take the step of being prepared.

When you have to preface it with repeated "advance notices" that we'll be talking about guns soon, then you know it's not really firearms related...
