I have a two-tone SIG 226 (nickle slide, blued aluminum frame) and I have begun to notice minor rust spots on the nickled slide.

What is the recommended procedure for removing these ugly spots from my pride and joy???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I had a stainless Beretta 92FS that had light rust spots. I went out and bought a tube of Flitz metal polish. I put some on a shop towel and rubbed them away. Best stuff I ever used. It also protects against corrosion.

Posted the same question on the Smithy a while back and that is how I learned about Flitz. If you haven't tried it buy some. A tiny bit goes a long way and it will make that nickel gleam.

I use Flitz, mostly because it can actually be used on bluing without removing the bluing (was very skeptical about that, but it's true) -- but in my opinion there is a much, much better polish for the kind of situation you guys are describing: Simichrome. It's a German paste with an extremely fine rouge in it. I started using it 25 years ago polishing wheels -- but on stainless steel it is the very best I've found. Bet it would be superior on nickle, too, PeterGunn.

You can find it at some hardware stores, and Brownells sells it, too. Give it a try -- works like magic on everything, including plexi.

PeterGunn, your situation is hopeless! Sorry to say it but it is. You should probably sell that pistol to someone who needs it for parts, me. Since I'm sure this was an accident and you're probably a nice guy I'll give you $100 American for it and pay the shipping costs. ;)

Seriously, the Flitz is goood stuff.

Well, I guess I will be trying the Flitz. Thank you guys so much for the info. I will post the results of my clean-up as soon as I can.

Muleshoe,
You know $100.00 American sounds about right. This piece actually works everytime I pull the trigger, and it fits my hand perfectly. It even puts the rounds in the 10 ring pretty frequently. A handgunner cannot be that happy with any one particular gun. Gues I should sell it for parts and get some 1911 something-or-other (please flame away).

dvc,
Glock was actually at the top of my list, but the grip angle was just to severe for me. Guess I'm just stuck with a great gun with a mediocure finish...darn!!!
