Police: Officer's wife shoots suspected burglar
Eyewitness News

San Antonio investigators are looking into the fatal shooting of a burglary suspect by a police officer's wife early this morning.

Police officials said an off-duty police officer was working security at around 2 a.m. at a Northside apartment complex in the 8600 block of Starcrest Drive when the shooting occurred.

The officer, who has not been identified, lives at the complex and heard some noises in the parking lot. When he went to investigate, he found two men sitting in a car.

When the officer confronted the men, one of them ran away. The other man began struggling with the officer, said Sandy Perez, a spokeswoman for the San Antonio Police Department.

The officer's wife apparently used his radio to call for help and then went outside with a gun, Perez said.

The suspect then ran toward the officer's wife for some reason and she shot him, Perez said.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

The case has been sent to the district attorney's office for review, and the officer has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police officials said they are treating this as a justifiable homicide, but the district attorney's office will make the final decision whether to send the case to a grand jury.

Good shoot.
Of course I would hate to be that Officer and suffer the ribbing he is going to be getting for the rest of his career.
"Hey - we gotta serve this warrent... bring your wife."

What was the Sty Stalone movie? "Stop or my Mom Will Shoot" George, you right about the ribbing the officer will get from now on. The cards on the department will have a field day with this one. I would.

Good shoot. Anyone who runs *towards* a person pointing a gun at them needs killin'. :D

Seriously, she did it right. Odd to read an unemotional, balanced account of a self-defense incident.

Great for the wife. Good guys-1 Bad guys -0. Sad part is that according to the radio this morning, the wife was the only person to respond to the struggle and shot fired. Nobody else called 911 even. Sad to say that not a single resident bothered to get involved. Government indoctrination at work.

Right in my home town.

I love Texas, but TAZ is right, we have our share of sheeple.

A woman like that is worth her weight in Shiner. :D

Come on, Taz - bystander effect is well known
and not a government indoctrination.

It is a function of diffusion of responsibilty among sheeple. Most folks assume someone else will get involved and thus take little personal risk. Happens in many cultures.

While you may decry the outcome, let's understand the cause.

Actually, one of the causes is the indoctrination that we as a society receive repeatedly from many sources. How many times do we hear that taking the law into your own hands is not the thing to do. You should not defend your property with force. You should just carry a whistle, mace... heck around here if one of my kids dares to defend herself from attack, she gets arrested along with her attacker. School policy. NO VIOLENCE is tolerated; even in self defense or in the defense of others. The assumption that my involvement is not required is based partly on these policies which we see more and more of lately. Where I grew up, it would be unheard of for someone not coming to your aid. I dont really think it is as much of a cultural issue as one of a growing dependence on help from somewhere else, ala gov, LEO... Even in American culture there was a time when it was probably a rarety to have a woman being beaten on a bridge without someone coming to her aid. There are always going to be some people who are either apathetic to the needs of others, or those who will not risk their own safety for that of another human, or even those who are just plain chicke$hit. That is a natural thing. What is wierd is that we are seeing more and more of this type of behavior. My opinion is that ONE of the causes which we could easily eliminate are these moronic policies and messages we get force fed routinely that defending yourself or others by violent means is a BAD thing. From what I heard on the radio this morning the wife was the only 911 caller and the only responder to her husband's plight. This is not a rural farm they were on, but an apartment complex in a rather large city. Dont know much about the surroundings in the Stracrest area, but I have driven through there many a times, and I dont remember it being a deserted place. The idea that in a complex, nobody called 911 after shots were fired is wierd, to say the least

Actully, Not coming to one's aid has been around for a long time. Well before the anitgunners became as vocal and supported as they are today Kitty Genvise(sp) was murdered in NYC while neighbors watched from their windows. NOT ONE OF THE PUKES watching bothered to call the police during the more than 1/2 attack on Kitty.
