Hello, I´m Anibal Perales and I am from Mexico.
I was wondering if any of you can help me. I have a Colt Officers Model revolver in .38 spl. caliber and I wasn´t able to find grips for it.
Does any body know where can I find grips for my revolver?
If any body can help me I´d be thankful

Anibal
PS: Plase forgive my bad English.

Most any grip that will fit the following Colt revolvers will fit your Officer's Model:

The Python.
The Official Police.
The Trooper (NOT the later Trooper Mark III).
The 357 Model.
Any of the Officer's Models.

All these Colt revolvers were built on Colt's mid-frame, known as the E&I frames.
Grips are interchangeable.

I thought that way......

Thanks Dfariswheel.
I Thought that way, and I tried a Python grips, but even if the grips matches whit the but of the revolver, there is a piece of metal that doesn´t let me put the screw through the grips.
I mean the grips match but the screw does not.
And I want to get a actual Officers model grips, but I don´t know where to buy them.

I've got an Officer's Model Match heavy barrel 6" that I put some Trooper grips on. They're big squarebutt Pachmayers and are enormous. Nonetheless, my hand is huge as well, and it shoots very well for me. This is probably the most accurate handgun that I have, including my Gold Cup, Buckmark, and Kimber.

Anibal:

First you have to know how old your Officer's Model is.

If it was made before World War 2 it used the "service" style grips. These are the "skinny" grips that do not cover the front or bottom of the grips like Colt target grips do.

These grips would be fully checkered, and would have silver Colt medallions.

Post war target type grips came in at least three different styles.
These all look very similar, but there are differences that are appropriate to when the gun was made.

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for the warm wellcomed. Thanks everyone too for the tips and the sites you advice me to visit.
How can I know my how old my Officers Model is?.
I think the grips must be the skiny ones, I don´t know because when I bought it. It doesn,t have the actual ones.
It had some cheap plastic ones that don´t fit the butt well.

Give a serial number, dropping the last few numbers. Like this: 123XXX.

With this, we can tell you a production date, and what type of grips were original.

As far as I can tell your Officer's Model was made in 1950-1951.

This was a transition period for Colt, and the Officer's Model, Officer's Model Special, and Officer's Model Match were all being made about the same time.

Serial number info is confusing, so we need more info:
EXACTLY what model do you have. Check the barrel markings for the model name.

Also re-check the serial number, since 6163XX is one too many numbers. The Officers Models ran a max of 5 numbers in the serial during that era.

Hello again.
Here are all the signs in my revolver:

In the left side of the barrel is written:

"OFFICERS MODEL 38"
"HEAVY BARREL"

Inside the yoke:

"6163xx"
"X"

On the top of barrel:

"COLTS PTFAMFG CO HARTFORD CT USA"
"PAT D AUG 5 1884 JULY 4 1905 OCT 5 1926"

I´m sure inside the yoke there are six numbers (6163xx) and the letter X below.
I hope it ´ll be useful to idetify the year of production.

Anibal
PS Please forgive my bad English again.

Again, the Colt serial numbers can be confusing.

The closest I can come is either the Officer's Model Special made in 1950, or a version made in 1939.

The numbers for 1939 started at #629000, and ended around #641000.

The serials for the 1950 model started that year at #60300, and ended that year around #783000.

A description or picture of the front and rear sights would help identify exactly what model you have.

However, from the sound of it, the grips your gun should have, are the "service" type grips, only with Silver medallions.

That's a 1930's model.

The grips you need are the same as in the picture: Made of American walnut, fully checkered, with Silver Colt medallions.

The best place to find these older Colt grips is on Ebay. These turn up fairly often.

You can buy a pair with Gold medallions, and replace them with a set of Silver.

You can also ask on the "Buy-Sell" area of the Colt forum. Likely someone will have a set to sell:

Thank you Dfariswheel. You have been very kind and helpful.
I will try in the two pages you advice me.

Saludos
Anibal.

I did it, I did it.

I finally did it.
I finilly can put the Python grips on my revolver Officers Model.
I polished the piece of metal wich didn´t let me put the screw through the grips, and now there´s enough space for the screw.
The Python grips match the Officers butt perfectly.
Thanks anyway to all of you for your help.

Anibal.
