On Mon June 19 @ approx 10:30 hrs. Orange County (CA) Sheriffs Department Motorcycle Deputy Steve Parsons was struck by a 77 year old driver who ran a red light. Deputy Parsons was on duty and in uniform. Witness accounts state the light was green for the Deputy for a significant amount of time when the other driver entered the intersection. He was hit at full traveling speed with no apparent braking manuever by the other driver. Deputy Parsons was thrown from his motorcycle as much as 60 feet according to witness accounts. He sustained a very critical head trauma, as well as a broken leg and clavicle. Deputy Parsons remained in a coma and to assist in healing his brain injury, he was to be medically kept in that state for some time.

Deputy Steve Parsons passed away on Sat June 24, as a result of injuries he sustained in the line of duty on Monday June 19, 2000. Deputy Parsons is survived by a wife, two children (3 and 6 yrs old), a sister, mother and father.

Kevin McClung of Mad Dog Knives is donating a one-of-a-kind custom 7-10" yet-to-be-designed knife to raise funds for the Parsons family. ALL proceeds will go directly to the Parsons family.

At MD Labs' request, we will be handling the raffle logistics and delivering the donations directly to the Parsons family. The drawing will be held October 24, 2000 and the winning number will be drawn by a fellow Orange County Deputy Sheriff.

Raffle tickets for the custom Mad Dog will be $5.00 each, and we will mail your raffle ticket directly to your address.

Please send your donation with a LEGIBLE return address and the words RAFFLE TICKET on the note and we will send you your ticket(s).

I am not surprised at all. You may wonder what I am talking about? Already, many kind words of encouragement and contributions to the raffle are coming in. This is what I have come to expect of the fine people on these forums. On behalf of myself and the Parsons family, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to those who have taken a moment of their life to help those in need.
