Off-Center Scope

I just bought a scope (Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40, 1" diameter) for my Marlin 917 which was all fine and dandy until we went to get it mounted. The people at the gunshop used Weaver 45 Top Mount Bases and Weaver 1" Scope Rings (Quick Detach Style, for objective lens diameters up to 40 mm). It all looked pretty until I got home and realized that the front part of the scope was off center by about 1cm to the right (I measured it). In other words, the entire scope body is not pointing straight forward.
Any idea what could cause this?
Thanks in advance.

Using the Burris Signature Rings with the inserts could have prevented this. There could be a few things that caused the problem: The receiver wasn't drilled correctly, the rings and/or bases weren't installed correctly, or the scope might have been damaged before installation.

I would return to the gun shop, show them the problem, and ask that they fix it. If the scope is bent, it won't function properly and some manufacturers won't warranty a bent scope from improper installation.
