MORE ANTI GUN OWNER BILLS INTRODUCED.

Senator Ginny Burdick has enlisted the help of her new lackey , Senator
Ryan Deckert, ( deckert.sen@state.or.us 503-986-1704) to introduce her
promised attack on concealed handgun licensees. But hatred for gun
owners crosses party lines, the co-sponsors are "Republicans" House Rep
Lane Shetterly (shetterly.rep@state.or.us 503-986-1434) and Senator
Verne Duncan. (duncan.sen@state.or.us 503-986-1712)

The bill, SB 508, can be viewed in its entirety at:

<http://www.leg.state.or.us/01reg/measures/sb0500.dir/sb0508.intro.html>

Here's the short version. Want to drop off or pick up your children at
school? Well you'd better not have any means of protecting them. Want to
volunteer to help out at your child's school? Leave your self defense
tools at home.

This idiotic legislation will no doubt be of interest to Norina Bentzel
, the principle at a Pennsylvania school who was attacked by a maniac
with a machete on Friday.

The lunacy of this bill should be especially clear to those who work in
or volunteer at schools. Deckert, Shetterly and Duncan want to
guarantee that incidents like the Pennsylvania attack occur as often as
possible. They want to render your children's school a safe haven for
every psychopath who wants to kill your kids.

But of course, there's more. This trio wants to define a "school" as any
place that school children are!

If you're a parent helping out on a field trip, no guns.

If you just happen to BE at a place where school children have gathered
for a field trip you can't have a gun!

You may be wondering what the problem was that prompted this
"solution." As usual, the only problem is that you have too much
freedom.

Here's a round up of some other turkeys:

House Rep. JoAnn Bowman and Senator Ginny Burdick have (with some help)
introduced new "eliminate your protection" laws.

Bowman has introduced HB 2695. You can view the bill at the URL listed
below:
<http://www.leg.state.or.us/01reg/measures/hb2600.dir/hb2695.intro.html>

This is another "lock up your self defense" law.

One of the co-sponsors is House Rep Jim Hill.

A "Republican.," Hill also voted to attack your rights in 1999 with his
support of HB 2535 which became Ballot Measure 5. (< askjim@rephill.com>
503 986-1405)

Burdick has introduced her own version, SB 498 and (no surprise) it's
worse.
<http://www.leg.state.or.us/01reg/measures/sb0400.dir/sb0498.intro.html>

These bills criminalize any storage of self defense firearms that keep
them available for your use against the kind of animals that killed the
Carpenter children in California not long ago.

Please contact Senate President Gene Derfler and House Speaker Mark
Simmons and urge them to put these bills in the trash where they belong.

Suggested messages follow, feel free to modify them:

Dear Senator Derfler,

SB 498 is a ridiculous attempt to render my self defense firearms
useless.

Laws like this have been responsible for the tragic deaths of children
like John and Ashley Carpenter who died because their older sister could
not access her fathers pistol when a killer broke into their home in
California.

Senate Bill 508 is a vicious attack on parents and teachers. It's an
open invitation for maniacs to attack our children.

Please do all you can to kill SB 498 and SB 508.

Very truly yours,

The bill that bans guns from "any place where school children are" is complete and untterly insane!!!!! School children ARE everywhere! If it passes you better not have guns ANYWHERE, including in your home..... I can see it now, warrantless searches to ensure that evil guns are not around school children.

This was tried in the last legislative session and it died in committee. Republicans (pro carry) control both houses of congress and the outcome will be no different. Problem is if they try another signature gathering petition. But my understanding on how Oregon's shall issue CCW came to be, only the legislature came make changes to CCW law.

Robert

I wrote all 30 senators and did a letter to the editor.

It is imperative that Oregonians support O.F.F. (see signature), and financially support the most viable candidate that decides to oppose state senator Ginny Burdick in her next election.

Here is my letter to the editor of the Oregonian. Feel free to paraphrase it and send in your own letter via the following link: Letter to the Oregonian. Don't forget the required information, and the 150 word limit (shorter letters stand a better chance of being published).

"As a former correctional officer, I want to congratulate state Senator Ginny Burdick on her new wave of gun-control legislation. More law-abiding citizens will now be defenseless thanks to Burdick's actions. These laws, which criminals and psychopaths will continue to ignore, create a wider range of areas in which they can carry guns without opposition from legally armed citizens."
