Odd Glock...

had a customer that came into our shop and was talking about "ceramic" Glocks. Evidentally they were extremely limited production a number of years ago.

No one had much info or really knows anything. One of the guys thought it might be a class III if they did exist. Any info appreciated

Urban Legend! It does not exist. I believe that rumor was started in a Die Hard movie. Anyone else know if that is where it started?

Bingo! it was one of Bruce's Die hard movies, Don't remember if it was one or two though. I think it was referred to as the Glock Model 7 (never existed).

There was a ceramic gun shown in the movie "In the Line of Fire". John Malkovich played the Assasin, and Clint Eastwood was the struggling Secret Service agent who saved the day. If i remember correctly, it was a two-shot pistol with two or three components that were assembled at the kill site. It was a blocky, pale-looking gun.

Was that, by any chance, a real pistol?

No such thing. Another one of those urban legends that will not die.

The "In the Line of Fire" idea is interesting though. Ceramic materials are by nature brittle, but for a highly limited number of shots this is not an issue.

I had a chance to handle an unusual pistol made out of epoxy a while ago; it was made in prison, with two barrels that were electrically-fired. This guy had stripped some electrical components out of something, laid them in a mold, covered them all with epoxy, and then carved everything away that didn't look like a pistol. It would have worked for the first two shots at least (using match-heads for powder), but it was confiscated before he had the opportunity to use it. This is about as close as you'll find to a "plastic gun that can go through metal detectors".

And I thought I had already had my ebay humor for the week...
