if you are like me you enjoy taking down various animals with odd caliber.. id like to hear about your various calibers and how they perform.

Shot a buffalo with a 50-70 government using an original 1870's round of black powder ammo. 33" of penatration, 44 seconds later it breathed its last breath.

I've taken a few coyotes and 2 whitetails with a .260-300 wildcat my uncle built for me on a customized Sig SHR970 platform. Did nasty things to the yotes with Nosler Ballistic Tips, looked like a grenade went off inside them. Took the deer with Nosler Accubonds. Nice big wound channels, through and through, grapefruit size exit wounds. Both were dead before they hit the ground.

very nice :) i have taken several whitetails usin 180 grain ballistic tips out of my 338 federal in montana and wyoming... surprising for such a slow cartrige it is devastating to chest cavities and spreads brain matter like nobody's buisness, panther arm recently put the 338 federal to use in one of their AR's

I used to hunt hogs with my old military rifle collection. I had a few oddballs, but my favorite was an 1871 Mauser in 11mm Mauser. A paper-patched 300 gr bullet over 60 gr ffg black powder. It was a blast to shoot but a bear to clean. I shot two wild pigs with it, down, dead, no question about effectiveness.

I have also used 9X57mm, 6.5-06, 33 Winchester, 32-20, and 357 Herrett on game animals.

I shot the buffalo in Colorado not that impressive it was a harvest not a hunt. I have also taken a bull elk with a 1894 Winchester 38-55 with cast lead bullets also shot a mule deer buck with the same outfit. Shot a mule deer buck with a 1886 Winchester 45-90 and a couple elk with a Winchester 71 in 348 Win. This 71 also shot a buffalo. Shot a number of big game with a 35 Whelen when it was still a wildcat cartridge. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head will try to remember more.

In my youth my brother, some friends and I often hunted deer with odd calibers. I have the antlers of a deer my brother killed in 1955 with a trap door .50-70. That 12 point rack was not scored until 2004-188 points. I killed a deer with a civil war Spencer carbine. A friend claimed that his ugly .41 Swiss was the best deer killer on the market. He did kill a lot of deer with that gun.

I do enjoy playing with my 45-120 occasionally. I took it hunting once a got a small mulie with it (2x3). I do have a lot of oddball rifles (wild cats) most of them are based on the 06 and 308 case. My favorite amongst those is the 6.5-06.

I shoot a 30-40 Krag on a pretty regular basis. It was Dad's and is a re-connect for me.

Also have a 45-70 Trapdoor that is really too big for anything here. I shot one deer with it and a few hogs.

The Trapdoor is for sale.

Just remembered shooting an antelope with a Winchester model 1894 in 25-35 and shot an antelope, a mule deer, and a few coyotes with a Remington model 25 in 32-20 caliber.
