Odd 1917 .45 Us Army

I am cleaning my grandson's 1917 .45 passed down through the family. It has an 8 1/4 inch barrel is marked on the butt plate :US ARMY Model 1917 No. 15 xxx. I am reblueing it. It had numerous rust spots on it. It is different from the common pictures posted. Can anyone give me some information on this weapon.
