Obvious difference between FR8 and FR7 Mauser?

Hello I have a Spanish Mauser 7.62x51 nato. What are the key visual differences to determine if I have an FR8 or FR7 Mauser? Can I shoot modern 308 ammo or is that a no-no? Thanks in advance, Jason

FR8 is large ring, FR7 is small ring, FR7 has straight stock like other small ring mausers such as 1916 and 1985 while FR8 stock has a heel like 98 mausers. FR8 large ring can handle 308 with no problem. FR7 better stays with 7.62NATO and below.

Thats actually very easy, just look at your serial number. It will say FR8-xxxxxxx.

I shoot .308, as well as 7.62x51, and my reloads out of mine.

I have heard that .308 is to high of pressure and might be unsafe in the FR8, is this true? Thanks in advance, Jason

The FR8's are a large ring Mauser action. They have no troubles with commercial .308's. Ive shot a good bit of everything through the couple we have, and never had any kind of problems.
