hi i would like to know if it is possible to obtain a florida ccw without going to florida could i fullfil all requirements out of state?

Fla has a non-res ccw.
Call our Department of Agriculture in Tallahassee.

It's pretty simple but, it will take a while. They have a monster backlog or applications.

Does your state not have a recipratory(sp) agreement with Florida? I know that I can use my ccw in Florida, as my state has an agreement with Florida.

ny does not abide by the 2nd amendment i know there are programs out of state that help you obtain a florida non-resident permit but i have no info on them any help would be appreciated thanks i am the ny area

Utah and Florida CCW permits can be obtained out-of-state. Having these two states' licenses gives you great "coverage" as they have reciprocity with more states than any other. The key is you must take the CCW course by a state-certified instructor. Thankfully here in Oregon the gun range that I am a member of has a Utah certified instructor so I was able to take the class locally and get my Utah license. I live on the opposite side of the country from Florida but I would assume if you are on the east coast that there are plenty of instructors out that way.

Yep, FLA Dept of Ag handles this.
It'll require proof of training, photos and a notarized fingerprint card. It'll also take $117 (good for 7 years) and the wait will be l-o-n-g and painful as it's horribly backlogged. Mine took a full 8 weeks, but that was pre-Obama. Your wait will likely be longer.

I applied in December, took 3.5 months. Husband applied same day but had to be re-printed, his took over 6 months. Backlog is enormous

I wanted to add a related tidbit.

On the Florida application, there's a line for entering your Social Security Number, and it says that it's optional. I love that it's optional, so I declined and did not enter it.

How that matters? Well, at one point about 7 weeks in, I called the telephone number provided in the application kit to "check on the progress" of my application. She asked for my SSN and I told her that I didn't enter it, and she told me that she couldn't check it's progress at all.

I told her that the Fla Dept of Ag cashed my check a week after I sent it, and should I take that as evidence that it's in process? And she told me absolutely not, all that means is that the mail room received it and they opened my envelope and deposited the check. It doesn't mean I was approved, or am in processing or that I either am or am not getting it. It only means they received it.

I asked her, "If I am somehow not approved for a license, do I get my money back, or any of it?" and she told me no, absolutely not. I pay, I wait, I see.

A couple of days after this very disappointing phone call, my license showed up in the mail with Charles H. Bronson's signature on it.

So you got yours in a little over 7 weeks?? Was this recently, or more than a year ago?? Friends that applied last October also took just over 3 months! Trying to ascertain the current processing time.

ETA: Also, I have not heard of anyone turned down, have you?

I got mine in exactly 8 weeks. I sent it in to Florida in August, 2008.

I have heard of folks getting turned down-- typically, something is missing or uindreadable. As I recall, they contact you and it gets cleared up and processed.

Current processing time? I dunno. Bad, I'm sure. Best bet is to get them the info ASAFP and then forget about it entirely.

I got mine close to two years ago and it took a while

but this was because they kicked it back to me twice....

not their fault.

first time was because of the finger print card, second was needing paperwork on a conviction from 1978... both of these times I received a letter saying what was wrong and what they needed and even a phone number if I had questions. I was actually impressed with Florida with both of these problems and eventually I did get the thing.

for the original poster, I think Florida is your best bet. I'd love to have Utah, but they require a course taught by a 'Utah Certified' instructor.

I'm taking a class this weekend to get the Florida and Virginia permits. They do the photo, fingerprinting, and notary stuff. as well as the pistol course.

Having Florida,Pennsylvania and Virginia covers a large part of the country.

The class is down by Philly.
