I began to explain that anti-gun groups backed by the government are trying
to take our RKBA, how they were doing it, what it meant to them, and what
had happened in other countries. None were aware of the MMM, what laws were
in affect, or what resolutions are pending. One woman even said, "I have a
conceal and carry permit, so registration and mandatory locks won't affect
me"

Interestingly, in a group of 5 men and 4 women, only the women became
alarmed and interested in what was going on. :( They began to ask questions
and what they could do. My comments were to READ, READ, READ. Go to the
NRA and GOA websites, find out how your representatives are voting, what
laws are pending, get involved in some form or fashion(WRITE, WRITE, WRITE).
Talk to others and make them aware of what is being done to their rights.
Talking to and educating others can be just as powerful a tool as writing
representatives. The women weren't even aware that the federal government
had just taken their right sue their attacker in a rape case.

I'll have to admit, I was shamefully ignorant of the attacks on my rights
until recently. :o However, thanks to this site and others I'm paying
attention and learning to act. Today our guns are "THE ENEMY". What next?
Our religious affiliation? Our right to raise our children as WE see fit,
or even have them? Our choice of jobs? Where we live? The right of free
passage? I think the line has been drawn. If it is crossed now, GOD help
us, because He is the only one who will be able to.

My grandfather didn't survive a German concentration camp in WW I and my
father didn't survive Pearl Harbor and Korea to see their descendants have
their God given, constitutionally guaranteed freedoms stolen.

"Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not REALLY out to get you." ;)

I hope that at least you understand that there were serious Constitutional conflicts between State and federal powers that led to the Supreme Court's decision. The government didn't just "take away their rights..." on this one.

NRA? Good. Now joing the GOA!

In my effort to be brief, I lost some clarity in my original post(not to mention the losing the 1st 2 paragraphs). However, let me try to clarify.

George, "OLD NEWS" you sir are most correct. Freedom of religion has been under pressure for decades. My meaning was if/when they are successful with taking guns, they will step up the attack on religious freedoms. It will be much more ambitious than before. Register and license your religious affiliations? Outright closing of churches? Punishment for public prayer? If the 2nd amendment is lost, the others become easier to fall also. This may be "OLD NEWS" to some, and to a large degree, it's "OLD NEWS" to me. My point was to try to make others aware, repeatedly, it's not "OLD NEWS" to many of them. They need to see just how the dominos can and will fall.

CMOS,

I believe my actual words to the ladies in the group was, "Did you see where the Supreme court ruled you don't have the right to sue your attacker in a rape case?" Blank stares. I then stated that I was not familiar with the issue, but we ALL should have been.

I hope this clears the mud a little. My point to my original point was, it surprised me how unaware people are(I'm not excluding myself),and that little conversation can make a difference. It also surpised me that the women were so interested in the gun control issue and they were pro gun.

I realize I'm preaching to the choir here, but I'm still trying to learn the hymn book.
