im going to purchase one of these two guns and before i do i would like your opinion of the two?

spartan o/u 12ga

or

stoeger o/u 12ga

which would you prefer, i have shouldered both guns and i know which i prefer, i want to know if my choice is a good choice.

The Spartan is Russian, the Stoeger is Turkish. I believe the Spartan will hold up better in the long run. If it were me I would save up a while longer and buy a Browing, Ruger, Remington not Spartan, or Beretta o/u. These guns are better quality and will be trouble free a lot longer. Plus parts will be available should you need them years from now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Before you buy a Spartan or Stoeger, you owe it to yourself to look at the Mossberg Silver and Onyx Reserve O/U. Way more shotgun for the money than either of the other two, and in the same price range. I bought a MSR last year, and it's a great shotgun.

The Spartans are made by Bakail in Russia. They are OK for the money. My wife hunts upland with a Savage 411 SxS, which is an upgraded version of the Spartan SxS.

It does take much looking around to uncover numerous horror stories about Stoeger's customer service.

I have a Spartan 12ga O/U (310). I love it. What it lacks in beauty it makes up for in durability and reliability (which is what I look for in a gun). Remington just moved the Spartan information from spartangunworks.com to the remington.com site, they're listed as Remington SPR models.
Good luck.

Ndterminator, the Mossberg is also a turkish gun and there have been many horror stories about the quality. The only one I have seen had the dent in the lower receiver that has been reported hundreds of times on various forums. Untill they fix the problem it is a gun to stay away from.

RW king,
I can say nothing of the spartan, but the fella that runs a gunshop around here bought a stoeger 20 gauge over/under "and we shoot that thing constantly, more than anything else because its our only 20 gauge". He "bought it years ago to have a o/u my family could use (abuse) without me getting pissed" and "I've never had a single problem with it, never, and I don't clean it near as often as I should."

I didn't quote exact, but I'm close because I paid attention...I'm in the market for a 20 o/u to give someone else. He said its a very strait forward design, easy to take down, and well balanced.

NOT MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, but the man CAN SHOOT CLAYS, and most folks listen when he talks so it carries weight with me. It seemed, to me, that folks are leaning to anything other than a stoeger and spartan, so I thought I'd post this to give the only thing i've heard about either.

Hope it helps a bit, and if you don't mind let me know if you purchase either.

I have 2 stoegers 1 supreme and 1 competition that have alot of shells through them with no problems. They are a good value for the money. I also have a 686 silver pidgeon that I would recommend as well.

The Stoeger condor is a fantastic gun. I have the combo 12/20, and paid right at $600 for it. I shot the hell out of it this year, and couldn't be more pleased.:D

Try to get a Lanber if you can. Fantastic approval rating. Gunsmiths own them. $1485 MSRP and They are selling them in the $500 plus range. I paid $580 and I got a #2097 Lanber. I will post the web site when I find it. This statement is from another forum:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Something I forgot to mention in my last post. Does anyone know what the suggested retail for teh 2097 is? I found it in a book of current target guns...

$1485

I certianly didn't pay that much, and it only makes me happer to have this gun...

ok...back to the two models you are considering and asked for info on, not the models folks are telling you about. Have you chosen between the Stoeger and the Spartan. Remington has done an nice job on their website for the Spartan line, good info and all.

Have you made a choice yet, and if so what did ya pick and why? Also, if you've fired it, and feel like sharing, lemmie know your thoughts on it as well. Like I said, i'm looking for someone else, so I'm looking for input.

I know folks knock both guns and everything about them...and for saying this I'm going to be considered a person of low taste who doesn't understand the finer things in life...but honestly I like the way they both look. Nice, clean, straitforward designs that look like they are made for shooting. Classic looks I guess, I dunno, but I think they look better than several other O/U's I've seen.

And that's my 2 cents for the day, check back tomorrow for more...

ron, I'm the one that should apoligize...I just reread my post and, well, I sure didn't mean to sound the way I came off sounding. I don't like trolls and, well, I sounded like a troll with that.
