NYS veterans PUNISHMENT bill

New york state passed a law that would allow veterans of foreign wars (WWII, korea, vietnam, persian gulf) to buy back up to 3 years of their military service time to count toward your service time in the NYS retirement system. This, is a great idea. Except, in my father's case (and all the other's as well) it would cost 100,000 dollars to buy back his 3 years in the marines, including active duty in vietnam in 67. This is ridiculous, even at the PEAK of his employment in the armed services he recieved $249 per month. I realize few of you are from NY, and fewer of you are veterans from NY, but this is an injustice against veterans who gainfully served their country when others ran to hide in college or canada. I ask that those of you who live in NY contact your local representatives and support bill A07673 which would make the state cover the full cost of this service buyback.

thank you for reading.

Huh? When I was laid off from the NYPD back in the seventies, It cost me $1900 to buy back 25 months. Still a ripoff. Thanks Abe Beame you little rat! This isn`t exactly the same thing but $100,000! Even though I don`t live in NY anymore, I`m pretty well informed on the latest pension goings on but hadn`t heard this one. Any links?

I have mixed feeling about this. I am a veteran and when I worked for Uncle Sam they counted the full military service for pension purposes (In my case 7 years). The state should do the same. But State pensions are already very generous and bloated, and eventually will bankrupt the state, and I am getting shelled with high taxes to pay for the bloated salaries and benefits for public employees and teachers.

Why the hell should I support more money for govt employees when I am being robbed blind by the feds and state and every other municipality. The amount of money I give in taxes us obscene!

If your dad currently earns that much he doesn't need it, quit crying!

And another point; WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH FIREARMS?????

Sorry , I'm just po'ed at the whining of people who cry over a few dollars when they already have too much.
