New york state passed a law that would allow veterans of foreign wars (WWII, korea, vietnam, persian gulf) to buy back up to 3 years of their military service time to count toward your service time in the NYS retirement system. This, is a great idea. Except, in my father's case (and all the other's as well) it would cost 100,000 dollars to buy back his 3 years in the marines, including active duty in vietnam in 67. This is ridiculous, even at the PEAK of his employment in the armed services he recieved $249 per month. I realize few of you are from NY, and fewer of you are veterans from NY, but this is an injustice against veterans who gainfully served their country when others ran to hide in college or canada. I ask that those of you who live in NY contact your local representatives and support bill A07673 which would make the state cover the full cost of this service buyback.
