NYC and the magazine capacity law.

I read a few posts where people said that even PREBAN magazines are not allowed in new york city.

I called up the NYPD's license division, and was transferred around for an hour with no one able to give me an answer.

NYS state law allows preban, Is there a law for new york city that wont allow it ?

I read this, http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/FederalGunLaws.aspx?ID=56 seems like NYC allows handgun mags up to 17 rounds.

anyone knows any different ? got a source ? any help is greatly appreciated ! Thank you.
 
The law you seek is section 10-131 of the New York City Administrative Code.

The magazine laws for NYC are a pain.

You are allowed to possess a preban magazine. However...

1. you can only possess magazines for guns you are licensed to possess.
2. a magazine cannot extend past the end of the grip. That means that if you insert your legally owned Glock 17 mag into your legally owned Glock 26 you are breaking the law.
3. Regardless of any other factor, a magazine cannot hold more than 17 rounds.
4. You can only receive and dispose of magazines to a firearms dealer.
