NY Rifle/Shotgun law question

Hey everyone! I have been an avid hunter and gun 'buff' for quite sometime now. I have read this forum frequently in the past and decided it's time to sign up and jump into the mix.

Question about the Law in NY state. I live about 3 hours north of NYC (I try to avoid going there at all costs). A buddy of mine that is a NYC resident owns a house down the road from me up here in the mountains. He comes up here on weekends/vacations. We got to talking about firearms the other week and he wants to buy a rifle up here from the local shop. After a little shooting in my yard, he was hooked. However, he does not want to deal with the hassle of the endless NYC paper work.

Question- Is it legal for a NYC resident to purchase Rifles/Shotguns upstate (outside of NYC) and keep them at their house up here. The NYS Penal Law does not mention anythign against it. The NYC Laws on the NRA webpage don't really touch on this area either... they mainly refer to the rules about posession within the 5 socialist boroughs. Handguns are not even an option for him... as the entire state is heavily restricted. Rifle/Shotgun purchases up in this part of the state just require an ATF 4473 form and the phone call.

When he asked me about this, my answer was 'I honestly don't know'. My advice to him was just to change his address to his house up here. He caught the 'bug' after I let him shoot the Ar-15 and the 30-06!

Anybody on here with an answer or any insight? I tried using the 'search' menu on here. However, none of the posts really touched on this topic.

He has a residence in the area have him use that address to purchase the rifle/shotgun. I know alot of NYC residents who do the same thing in fact a few actually leave their firearms with my Dad as he cares for thier property and they dont want to have thier firearms burglerized. Not to be nosey but where you at? I grew up about 3 hours north of NYC in the mountains.

UP State / nyc laws

Be carefull .if he is a n.y.c. resident and works there and pays taxes there ,he could be in violation the law . If this is his permenent address, and not a second home he would be okay . Only one home may be used as a primary home . Where does he have his drivers liscence and car registered ? Does he pay N.Y.C. taxes ? Up state here ,you have to be a perminent resident ...even for long guns .Ask a sherrif or a lawyer to protect your self .
