Hello All,

I was wondering if anybody could help me especially LEO's. Is it ok to travel to a range with your guns locked in a case unloaded in the trunk of your car. I live in PA and a friend has invited me to an indoor range in Upstate NY.

Thanks

You can take rifles or shotguns to upstate NY,cased and unloaded. Don't keep ammo in any magazines, detached or not. Locked it not really necessary, but is ok so long as ammo is seperate. No handguns! Any handgun present in NYS must be registered on a NY pistol permit, and only NY citizens can register them as such. Exceptions exist for law enforcement officers (a federal law grants concealed carry priviledges),and a little known exception for handguns used in NRA sponsored competitions.
Also, you may not take any post 2004 manufacture "after ban" semiautomatic rifles into NY if they possess features under the NY AW ban,nor may you take in magazines over 10rds made after Sept of 1994.

Technically you can not even TOUCH a handgun in NY, even if you are with your friend, at a range, and it is on his permit.

My advice for people who live outside this state and like to shoot is DON'T COME HERE. Personally I am trying to get a job in VA so I can leave Long Island.

Enlighten your buddy regarding the law in NY as many permit holders here are not aware of how bad it is for people coming from other states. This is especially true in the more rural upstate regions. Suggest to him that he come to PA to shoot.

Thanks, I really wasnt sure but figured I couldnt. Oh well I stick to my local ranges. I guess I'll have to stop being a mary and go shoot in the cold.:D
