"When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to break the political bonds......" It was for such actions that both American revolutions were fought. You Yankees called the the second, the Civil War. "Now we are engaged in a great Civil War testing whether this nation, or any nation can so endure......" Federalism and it's taint stains every aspect of our lifes. The very idea that majority rules was never intended by the founding fathers. Franklin said that democracy is two wolves and one lamb voting on who is for dinner. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights defines individual freedoms, and was put there to protect them. Franklin also said that anyone who would trade a little freedom for a little security, deserves neither. Since 1865, when we went from being these united states to the United States, the hand writting has been on the wall. Much liberty has been traded for little security. The right to vote was origionally given to those persons propertied, because as D'Touqueville believed, once the masses figured out that they could vote through political surrogates to confiscate another's property, the experiment would end in failure. We are mighty close now aren't we? As a republic, one man, one vote was never the intention of the founding fathers. Frankly, they did not trust the people to always do the right thing. Thus the Senate and electors to elect the president (just in case the popular election elected Caesar, he could be removed before blood was shed by never being allowed to take the oath). I am certainly not advocating the overthrow of the government, but over such things, governments have fallen. Now that we have a mercenary, standing army in the field who have been ordered to provide their DNA and are doing it willingly, one wonders when the Rubicon will be crossed. Just my 2 cents.
