Reed is out:

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Reed Exhibitions to terminate the agreement the parties had for the management of the SHOT Show.
...
NSSF is actively engaged in the process of identifying a new show management company to manage and produce the SHOT Show beginning with the 2014 SHOT Show.

Good news, I say. Surprised it took them that long but I imagine the process of terminating the agreement was probably a long one filled with lots of lawyers.

Bart, it goes back to the brew-up over the no longer politically acceptable AR-15 in the aftermath of Sandy Hook. Reed Exhibitions also put on the Eastern Sports show, and they prohibited makers from bringing AR pattern rifles (as well as other eeeeeevil modern autoloaders) to that one, causing many makers to pull out of the show (S&W led the parade, but a rather significant number of attendees bailed on the show, basically killing it, IIRC).

Reed also was the promoter for SHOT, but as you can imagine, if they are going to prohibit such things it's going to pretty much end the "shooting" part of SHOT.

I remember reading a few weeks ago that the NRA was going to promote the show this year. Not sure if that has been finalized.

Ah, hasn't the SHOT show this year already happened?

Do you mean the the 2014 show?

Who wonders where the years have gone. Anybody remember the "Y2K' scare?

Oops, yes I was talking about the 2014 show this coming year.

"I remember reading a few weeks ago that the NRA was going to promote the show this year. Not sure if that has been finalized."

NRA is taking over the old Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show in Harrisburg, the one where all of this mess kicked off.

I've heard nothing about NRA taking over promotion of NSSF and, I'd be rather shocked if they did.

Thanx for the clarification. There is so much going on in the gun world this year that I can't keep it all straight. :o

I've heard talk among some "contacts" that the NRA has been approached about the Shot Show....but I'm sure others have been contacted as well. NRA does have a Shows and Promotions division that manages the Annual Meetings exposition as well as the newly acquired Eastern Sportsman show. Might be a logical fit.....we'll just have to wait and see.

"any idea on what it costs to put on the Shot Show or the eastern one that was canceled?"

Very likely in the millions by the time you factor in all of the costs.
