Hello,
For me, yesterday was a wonderful day of liberty. I took the day off with
approval from my boss. Let me describe it to you:
After breakfast, I drove into Loudon, TN and cast an [early] vote for freedom.
Next, I drove to Lovell Rd. in Knoxville and found a traffic
jam...something about "Moses" being at a sports pavilion. I found the
pavilion and parked....met my father-in-law, got an NRA hat, sign, bumper
stickers and had some great conversation with patriots from within the
immediate area. Channel 8 news team arrived for some reason or another. A
helicopter buzzed overhead. One of my buddies, Dan, from work showed up and
joined in. Only about 250 people at this point. Once inside, I took notice
of the cross section of "Americana" inside. Young, old, men and women.
There were even some young boys "playing hooky"; their dads told me that
this was an important event for them [kind of like when I played hooky to
get in on a hog killin' or two!].
There was a veteran of one of the great wars that had lost one of his legs.
There were "soccer moms" and guys in suits. By the time of the opening
speech, it was packed. Standing room only. Well over 2,000 people.
Once underway, we saw on two big screens, just what had happened in
Australia and what is currently happening in Canada...people losing their
rights, their guns and their means of protecting themselves.
Could happen here, the NRA film stated.
We then had an opening prayer from the pastor of my church.
Then, we were lead into the pledge unto our flag. My grandfathers would
have been proud of the ceremonies.
Out came some local politicians who validated everything I believe in as an
American. The newly ordained Louise Mandrell, of the NRA board of
directors spoke. Several local officials spoke. Interestingly, we were told
that due to the hurrendous traffic jam, the sheriff of Knox County was
trying to get to the pavilion to speak and could not arrive on time! Then,
James J. Baker of the NRA spoke about the role of the NRA.
NRA V.P. Wayne LaPierre was next. Let me tell you, this man was on fire
for our second amendment rights. He told us about the Gore of numerous
years ago....who supported our right to keep and bear arms and then, due to
politics [and Bill Clinton] told us that, we must have "gun
control". Hmmm........
Then, a film on the background of "Moses". Charlton Heston came out and
spoke eloquently and to the point about our founding fathers and our
liberties, liberties that we owe to firearms!
Afterward, I continued to shoot film of the various posters and people in
the audience. I shook hands with an old friend, "Big Doug Atkins" who is
a NFL hall of fame player, and asked why he was there at the rally....he
answered "the same reason as you". I spoke with numerous young people who
told me they were from the Knoxville Christian Academy; were still "in
class". Pretty impressive! More helicopters, more traffic jams, more
people trying to get back to work.....There was even a guy dressed as a
pioneer in buckskins and toting a musket rifle!
I finally got out into the traffic. Drove to my local gun shop
and bought ammo for my favorite handgun. Went home, put 50
rounds of freedom thru my handgun.
Folks, please, forget political parties, race, TV, jingles, the latest
polls, the news media and all the rest and vote for freedom this election!
It has nothing to do with "you are wrong, and I am right....." It has
everything to do with our constitution and way of life that we take for
granted.
Wow....what a great country!
