NRA position on Hi-Caps?

Anyone know what their position is on Hi-Cap mags? Or will they get be used as a bargaining chip in return for the so called Gun Show Loopholes?

We will all assume that by the term "Hi-Caps" you are speaking of the normal capacity magazines originally intended for a firearms and that by "Gun Show Loophole" you mean the same regulations that apply everywhere else for guns sales.

Please continue . . .

The hi-cap issue should really be a non-issue. That reg was passed for two reasons. First, it gave politicians who don't know jack about firearms a grandstand play so they could brag about being "tough on crime". Second, it knocked off some small competitors (not campaign contributors) who didn't want to retool.

Magazine capacity is not a real issue because a trained person can swap mags so fast it makes little real difference. This law is almost as stupid as Congress' idea that posting the Ten Commandments in schoolrooms would have prevented the Littleton massacre.

The reason I ask is that yesterday 3/13 on CNN's "Reporters Notebook" a talking head said that the only thing hanging up more gun legislation is that the anti's want a 72 hr waiting/backround check at Gun shows.NRA wants an instant check.....and is willing to concede mandatory trigger locks and banning Hi-Caps. I was trying to find out if there is any truth to any of this. I tend to not beleive the media when it comes to this kind of thing....so if any one can clear this up, I would appreciate it.

Wrong: crippled magazines are less reliable than regular capacity. Also, millions of 30rd magazines exist for popular rifles but no one makes 10-rounders for them. Further, that is only a step on the way to 5-round magazines...

Please allow me to expand on that last thought by Oleg. Saying that the full-cap ban is a non-issue is ludicrous IMO. The next step is five round, then three, then one. It's the camel's nose under the tent, and it will never stop. I'd like to see you in a gun fight changing one-round mags with each shot - let's call these mags "Gore specials" since he would undoubtedly jump on that idea if proposed by Chuckie S. and passed by Congress. "....shall not be infringed", folks!

Why do you insist on calling regular capacity magazines "Hi-cap"? Why not call them just "regular capacity" or "full capacity"?

We need full cap. mags for defense purposes. When you've got multiple armed "criminals" running at you, you'll need those 30rd clips.

Edit - sounded a little exterme ;)

More than 10 rounds = Standard Magazine
10 or fewer rounds = Klinton Clips
