NRA plug on Food Channel!

Holy moley.

Had the Food Channel on while checking out posts here at TFL. Sarah Maulton's Cooking Live is on and she's preparing venison. Caller calls in (did not catch her name) and says, "The NRA has a good book on cooking venison." (or to that effect). Seems her husband is a hunter and they cook wild venison regularly and is calling in to get some cooking tips.

Mmmm. My two favorite things. Guns and food.

Sarah as indifferent, both visually and verbally. The Food Channel has been, as I have observed, very apolitical. I cannot recall at any time where a political view was forwarded on screen. There was a short stint where Emeril harped on her highness rosie o a little but didn't feel that it was anything serious. I felt it could have been anyone, anti or pro, that he would have done the same (she had visited one of his restaurants just prior). On a few shows, he has discussed how some foods are harvested/hunted and prepared/dressed as if it's nothing special.

Well, one cannot blame him for liking Rosie. After all any cook likes those with a hearty appetite, and judging from all outward appearances Rosie has that in spades. :p and all that :D

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

Yeah, I'm sure she got quite a few heapings of whatever they cook up at his restaurant. He probably made a fortune from her patronage.

They certainly have enough meat and game on the channel. Can't be PETA folk.

If you ever watch the Iron Chef when they have some living ingredient and proceed to chop into wiggling parts - even strong men whince.

My favorite was the octopus battle where one chef chopped off the head part of the critter and the connected legs part ran away on its own.

I also remember a show where some guy went mushroom hunting and the dude whipped out a big Spyderco and started cutting mushrooms.

I saw this show. Sarah should not have attempted a wild game show, IMHO. At one point a caller started to give her some tips on cooking moose and Sarah asked, "you mean a wild moose?" Hey, is there any other kind.

I'm interested in cooking and watch the Food Channel quite a bit and my reaction is that they are quite liberal.

I recieved my NRA cookbook a month ago. I'll try the recipes and give my ratings when deer season kicks off. They looked pretty good, but my problem with most of the wild-game cookbooks is that they are mostly yankee recipes. I cant even buy some of their stuff down here in Texas, so half of most cookbooks are worthless. I did like the outdoor life cookbook my brother has. Tells you how to cook possum, and coons, and probably even skunks. There's another NRA cookbook too, but it was more expensive, and so I ordered the cheap one. I'll get the other one once I have a freezer full of squirrels, deer, and rabbit. That ought to be in about 2 more months.

Bon appitite!

I love the Iron Chef show! I used to watch it every week when it was on a local UHF station back when they didn't even have subtitles and I had no idea what they were saying.

Ever watch the 2 Fat Ladies? They had an episode featuring quail which even had a segement with the 2 of them out with a hunting party shooting the birds.

Yeah, I was going to mention that, when the Two Fat ladies went quail hunting, in the UK even, before preparing the meals.

They have had every spectrum of celebrities on the show from C. Heston to one of the Balwin dolts. The hosts do, from appearance seem liberal but if there's one thing I've learned in life, it's 'You can't judge a book by it's cover.'

Like EnochGale eludes to, I'm positive PETA really hates Iron Chef. The Japanese like their seafood fresh (right out of the tank, most of the time). They've had live octopii at least three times. Chen rules.

All right! Other Iron Chef fans!

Talking about PETA, remember that episode where it was Giant Carp Battle. And Chen killed that one struggling carp by hitting it in the back of the head a bunch of times with a big metal spatula?

Iron Chef rules! :D

The last Iron Chef I saw would kill the PETA and Envirowacko types. The ingrediant was Sturgon!
Live! The challenger wacked off its head and split it in two. The close up showed both halves eyes still moving.

The Pumpkin Battle is coming up! I can hear them scream.

Dang, we gotta get the dish back up and running, I'm going thru serious Iron Chef withdrawl :( Octopuss Battle?! They finally showed it? I loved the one with the squid and it bit the Iron Chef, no wonder he hates live ingredients hehehehehe
