Today they've got some new TV spots they're going to air.
They're great. Terrific, and long overdue.
Whatever you might think about Heston's presidency and the NRA, and yes I know there are criticisms to be made, these ads are _exactly_ what the organization should be doing. And he may not be the most agile debater, but there isn't anyone who can do these ads better than Heston. No one. He's got crebility, character, and political gravitas that the younger generation of actors doesn't have, and he's just plain good in these hard-hitting spots.
Anyway, there are several ads, and they make terrific points, all of them. Hitting on enforcement, and taking on licensing directly in on ad. That one's very nicely written. Heston: (words to the effect that): "driver's licensing is for taxation. Licensing doesn't stop drunk driving, reckless driving, or driving without a license. Enforcement does. So it's clear what gun licensing is for: confiscation".
And yeah, reading it is one thing, but you've got to hear Heston deliver the line, "Mr. President, if you say something wrong, it's a mistake. If you know it's wrong, it's a lie.. remember?" Go Chuck!
Now, of course, many stations won't air the ads. And I can see why! These ones are effective, especially as they bring out the duplicity of our president. But can't sit still for this, not now.
What I'm saying is, it's time to _get behind_ NRA, damnit, and fight!! So do it!
Give money to the ILA. Write letters. And in particular, write letters to TV stations and tell them to air these ads. These hypocrites are willing to shout about the first amendment when it suits them, to give endless free airtime that cynical fraud of a president, but a lot of them won't won't air _paid ads_ from the NRA??
A lot of this goes out to gunowners who may lurk, and not so much to the active posters here. If you're not going to get behind NRA now, and fight against this Gore-Clinton-licensing-confiscation-propogandizing crap now... when will you?
All right, enough cajoling. But check out these ads, you'll dig them.
