"WASHINGTON — Some of Al Gore's favorite rhetorical villains on the presidential campaign trail - tobacco, the pharmaceutical industry and the gun lobby - have quietly given money to Gore's Democratic Party through a little-noticed committee...."

"Even the National Rifle Association, which is spending heavily in battleground states to defeat Gore and other Democrats, gave $5,000."

No, it isn't much money, and yes, I know there are Democrats who support RKBA, but just the thought of it makes me want to puke!

I think like many heavily funded organizations and corporations, there are situations where they feel like they need to play both sides of the fence. Like you said, it is only $5K and we don't know where this money was exactly directed (maybe as you said, to a pro-gun Demo?).

Interestingly, though, the Dems are catching some crap for this--not just money from the NRA, but pharmaceutical companies, and big tobacco. All groups that Gore likes to bash. So, maybe it is just a another way of drawing out the hypocrisy in the fool.

They could have given me $5K and it would have done more for guns that Gore will do with it.

Why couldnt they donate the money directly
to the pro-gun democrats.
My uncle's democrat congressmen in MS is rather pro-gun so its hard to attack this.
But the only reason I can see for the a blanket donation to the liberal party is to make them look bad for not refusing or returning the check as they claim to bash the
'gun lobby' so much.

Neal Knox once mentioned this issue-he says (and I agree!) that individuals and organizations should only contribute to SPECIFIC CANDIDATES and not political parties; that's a lesson today's NRA seems to have forgotten. There ARE a few Democrats who support RKBA, and, sad to say, there are more than a few in the GOP who don't...and the only way to be sure the bad guys don't get some of your $$$ is to contribute only to specific candidates.

I received the (texas) NRA voter guide.

They DID list a dem. as very pro gun. Realize that in most of texas (outside of big cities at least) being anti-gun means you are off to the private sector.

I heard that dems in Idaho try to out-pro-gun very very pro-gun republicans.
