NRA Convention: Houston, TX

I wish I was going...

My weekend neighbor is a police officer in Houston & is in charge of managing large events. He says this will be the biggest event that they have ever had to staff-up for. And for those that don't know, Houston ain't just a spot in the road! He said he could even get me a pass in!!!

While he doesn't expect problems, they are staffing up a lot of officers form all over. He knows there will be plenty of protesters there, but as of this last weekend he didn't have any good stat's.

Enjoy, you lucky guys!

...bug:)

Shooting at the Bush intl airport...

I'm not sure if it will have any input towards the big NRA events but there was a shooting at a terminal in Houston Texas.

More details will follow. I don't think it had anything to do with the NRA or a armed citizen.

Well, it was an armed civilian who started shooting. As he was addressed by a DHS agent some reports say that he tried to kill himself. An autopsy is required to determine whether the agent's bullet or the gun man's bullet caused the fatal wound.

This is from sigs FB Page, they've got these on display

So is that a tactical lunch box built in to the stock? I don't see what that is there for, anyone have a good idea how that's useful.

The politics of gun control is back in the news (now that the Boston bombing is being milked dry), and the NRA convention is getting some air time. Sen. Ted Cruz has 'invited' Joe Biden to a debate on the merits of his efforts to reintroduce more gun control legislation.

Ted Cruz was president of the debate team at Princeton Univ and will eat shotgun Joe alive if he accepts. Probably the only way we'll see it happen is if pressure is maintained and the challenge repeated a few times, and the NRA really needs to promote this. I can't think of anything like this ever taking place before, with someone in an office as high as Vice President, so part of me thinks it'll probably never happen.

The NRA needs to really apply the heat and take advantage of this even if Biden declines, as there is a tremendous opportunity to score a lot of points with the fence-sitting public either way.

If Uncle Joe declines maybe Senator Cruz could just debate an empty chair. Oh, wait, I think that’s been done before. ;)

I had a blast at the convention, and highly recommend that everyone go at least once. :)

Despite media claims of "protesters and NRA members squaring off" I saw about 30 protesters on Saturday afternoon.....a stark contrast from the 70,000 that the same media said was attending the convention. I'll give the protesters credit for being civil and polite (this is Texas after all ) but none of the ones that i talked to were the least bit informed about the issues.

Oh and I never could figure out what that big white art project was supposed to be...

I never did see the protestors.

ETA: Here are just some of the cool stuff that I saw and did at the NRA Meeting:

  • An XDs in 9mm
  • some really cool guns from Thompson
  • a good home defense seminar put on by Rob Pincus
  • lots of good horse-trading
  • a rifle in a suitcase by Nemesis Arms
  • an awesome modular AR design by MGI
  • I met Marty Hayes and Massad Ayoob
  • several celebrity sightings

Thanks, Spats!

I also posted an article on the Home Defense class... because of the flare up over the option of putting a defensive gun in the kid's room.

Glad you enjoyed the seminar!
