NRA Buying real estate on times square!!!!!
Thu May 18 18:16:58 2000

Yep, the NRA is buying the largest single portion of times square and turning it into a shooting haven!! A shooting store, a resturant, electronic shooting simulations and its going to be right in the heart of the big apple!!!! Its about time they made a statement!!!It was on a news release tonight on CNN!! Shumer about crapped his pants!!!WOOOOHOOOO!! its finally happening, a new age of marketing!!! There are 7 news sources and MTV located within one block of the headquarters!!! I am so happy I could do back flips. I hope this is just the beginning of a new era of marketing for these fine folks!!! Wayne Lapierre Confirmed it!!!

Uh, I wouldn't be excited about any organization I belonged to buying into the materialistic shallow black hole which is Times Square. ;) Media attention is important but do you really want to be associated with the level of intelligence which is Disney and Gap ads?

Good, real estate in Times square is a good investment, it could be rented out and actually make money for the NRA. Also it will provide a haven for pro RKBA people in the media capital of the world. It will give us exposure in a hostile environment. Might even make me go into the city again. Good move.

Maybe Schumer will have a coronary about it :)

Wonder if they need any help!

This is not good news! The NRA is simply asking for a beating from the Media. I can't wait until some nut does something stupid there, the media firestorm will burn us all.

And can't you just see the statistics?

"You know, Katie, in NYC there is a 3% crime rate... but within 100yards of the NRA place, the crime rate has gone up to 10%" -- Andrew Cuomo

I guess i'll be holding back that extra check to the NRA.

NRA plans theme store for Times Square

From Correspondent Deborah

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The National
Rifle Association is negotiating a
lease for a "total shooting sports"
theme store at New York City's
Times Square, a spokesman for the
organization said.

The NRA hopes to join Disney, the
All-Star Cafe, and Loews movie theaters in one of the world's busiest
business districts. The spokesman said the theme store will be the
"biggest presence in Times Square."

"Imagine a new, exciting, total shooting sports and sporting goods
experience," said NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre in
an infomercial that will be aired at the association's upcoming annual
convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He continued: "Try to picture several
thousand square feet of NRA branded
merchandise, plus shooting, and outdoor
recreation products."

And according to the video, the theme store
and restaurant will feature only virtual
electronic gun games, not real guns.

'We wouldn't welcome' it

A spokesman for Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
said the mayor had no comment on the
planned store, and several people involved in
the revitalization of Times Square, including
some at city hall, say they knew nothing about
the NRA store plan.

Brendon Sexton, of the Times Square Business Improvement
District, said the store would be a detriment.

"We wouldn't welcome the gun culture back into Times Square. We
just got rid of it," he said. "It represents what we're proud Times
Square no longer is."

What Times Square "no longer is" is a symbol of crime and decay, an
urban arena for pornography and muggings.

But in the last seven years, developers
and city planners worked together to
clean-up the area, going to court to
get undesirable businesses closed and
spending millions on security,
sanitation and development.

Democratic New York Sen. Charles
Schumer, one of the NRA's fiercest
critics, believes guns and Times
Square are a dangerous combination.

"You've got young people, bars ... to
glorify shooting. Times Square is the
last place you want guns."

But the NRA claims 3.6 million members, which could bring in a
sizable number of tourists.

The NRA is not releasing the exact location or size of the planned
store.

Outstanding!!!! A very appropriate "in your face, mama!" move. This entire anti-2 movement is a product of the media. What better way to stick it in their face than put in a media zone in the heart of the media empire.

Now, let's go one step further. How 'bout a national talk show dedicated to the Bill of Rights and Constitutional awareness. Syndicate it and show it on either side of Rosie O.

Yessiree, looks like someone has grown a spine. Too bad it is not in the Republican party.

I think it is a great initiative! It will expose thousands of New Yorkers and the nation to the reality of the sporting aspects of firearms usage. It will help break down long held urban myths about firearms- namely that firearms are only used for defensive and criminal purposes. As a plus, it is a wise investment.

I suspect that the fire marshalls, building code inspectors, environmentalists, et al will REALLY make sure the NRA site is in compliance.

The city will also figure out some way to levy additional "fees".

Despite all that, I wish them well. The "in-your-face" statement feels good. Daniel in the lions den comes to mind.

Grrrrrrrr the nerve of that asinine Brendon Sexton equating me with the vermin who used to hang out at Times square.

This will be right in the face of the media and the UN, I love it! :) The NRA should have had a presence here years ago. Like it or not NYC is the media capital of the world and this will really stick in their craw.

Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy. Typical from a native of Taxachusetts to hide his head in the sand. You want to win this war? Go out and be prepared to duke it out. Otherwise they will move in without encountering resistance.

Just the very act of infiltrating gives them free press. Hopefully the NRA reps have there sound-bites ready. Let the NRA refute and make the utterers sound stupid for equating peaceful business owners with criminals. Anytime the antis say something it invites the NRA and other gun owners to step up and speak their mind.

If we don't start getting more agressive we will all turn out like The Land of Kennedy and Dukakis.

No thanks.

My take on this is " HOORAY FOR THE NRA!!!"

fINALLY, finally we do something to bring the battle to the media and the gun grabbers that the media represents.

---------------------------------------------

The battle for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is the Battle for the hearts and minds of the average American.

And weather Americans will continue
to live armed as freemen or;
to turn in their freedoms and civil rights to self defense to a socialist government in exchange for a meaningless campain promise of temporarlly percieved safety and consequently start new lives as defenseless government controled slaves, is dependent upon the choices that we make now.

I believe that the NRA New York Store is a wise choice that will net us many, many new members.

Ever if the proposed NRA Store never becomes reality, it is a most brilliant PR move.

Congrats, Wayne!
---------------------------------------------

The NRA , I feel has made the right decission here, and if some criminal ever comes into the NRA resturant intending human violence aided by his crime gun, we must remember that :

fIREARMS SALES HAVE NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA BEEN SO RESTRICED AS GUN SALES ARE NOW AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN HARDER TO LEGALLY PURCASE A FIREARM.

The so called "Easy Access to Firearms Media Lie" is nothing..... but a media lie.... which could never be believed by any one who has ever actually attempted to buy a gun in the last 4 years.

ALSO:

" Our firearms are not responsible for your poorly brought up and badly educated childern."

"Mothers dont let your children grow up to be criminals! Try teaching them morals, disclipline, firearms safety training
and a sense of responsibility instead."

The NRA is not responsible for your bad kids!

And , the NRA and law abiding gun owners
never were responsible, by any stretch of emotional illogic, for the henious acts of mentally disturbed criminals living thousands of miles from us , as the MEDIA
DISTORTORS would somehow have you believe.

GUN CONTROL puts THE CONTROL

In 2000, we must become politically active in
support of gun rights or we WILL LOSE the right
& the freedom.

NO FATE BUT WHAT WE MAKE!!!

Every year, over 2 million Americans use firearms
not to take live but to preserve life,....limb & family
.Gun Control Democrats would prefer that they are all disarmed
and helpless and die victims of felony violence, instead.

How excited can you get about that?

Interestingly, Jay Leno's comments about this last night were not particularly anti-gun for some reason. He just said "this is not a place where you'd want to make the waiter mad, is it?" and "one difference with the NRA restaurant and others - there's a 3-day waiting period to get your food." Kind of funny, and not pro nor anti gun. Can't believe it wasn't a slam. It was NBC. But give 'em time. I'm sure the comments will turn anti as this progresses.

oops, nevermind on that last part.

Kingcreek:

I don't think the NRA is talking about installing any el cheapo video game type of things. I don't know exactly what they have in mind, but with the computers these days, it could be the equivalent of flying in a flight simulator. ;)

Remember, the concept is to change the minds of "neutral" urban Americans about how they see, or rather fail to see, firearms. To urbanites, guns are about defense and crime. Period. Opening their minds to the rality of the "sporting side" of firearms is a great idea.

Why not an "NRA cafe", like Starbucks and CyberCafe, which could bring the joys of shooting around the globe via FATS-type simulations, etc?

Aw, c'mon USP45 ... we've got to quit cowering. Yes, cowering ... that is what we are doing.

We have to meet these people, eye to eye, and keep delivering the message. And, damn the media and the spin they will put on everything.

Folks, we will be hammered whatever we do. Whenever some nutcase hurts people with a firearm, honest gun owners will be blamed. Any misuse of guns is an opportunity to target the NRA. Always.

We are now in the same class as any other minority that has suffered bigotry throughout history. We'll be treated as the underclass, and we'll suffer bigoted slurs no matter what we do, no matter what we say.

This kind of effort is exactly what we need.

Offense, offense, offense ... it is indeed the best defense. In their face, demanding rights, showing our sport, our right to self defense and our responsibile use of firearms at every turn. And, showing our numbers to be in the tens of millions. Force the gun bigot cockroaches to scurry from the light of truth regarding the RKBA.

Good for the NRA.

Jeff said,

I agree. We have to stop thinking that the media will ever be on our side. Nothing we do will convince them of that. They, as a group, are our rhetorical enemies, at the least.

The best that we can do is to use the exposure to recruit among ourselves and let others know that we are out there for them to organized around.

How many of you got the e-mail or phone numbers of the folks you met at your local MMM counter demonstrations? How many of you are planning a casual get-together at a local coffee shop to put faces to names? How many of you refused any such contact?

We cannot afford to be loners.

We have to organized and back each other up.
