Nowlin 1911s

Hi all!

I have question for everyone about the quality of Nowlin 1911s, are they a quality pistol?

The reason I ask this is 'cause my dad tells me that he's looking for a semi-custom 1911. He says that "factory '11s don't have the quality that those custom guys make". I made no arguments with him, because he's probably right!

After finding out what he was looking for I suggested the Springfield TRP or Kimber CDP, but he is set on getting a semi-custom 1911.

Dad then asks me what do I think about Les Baer and Nowlin 1911s.

I have had time with Les Baer pistols and they always impressed me with their quality. I do not have any expierence with the Nowlins though. So anyone have any usage/stories about the Nowlins that I can relate to dear ole dad?

Thanks everyone!

Derek

May I suggest a Gunsite GSP 2001 if he's sticking to a budget. If not, than a Wilson Combat or Les Baer will suite him just fine.

For the money that amount of money, why not just go full custom?

No experience here, but I've heard good things about them.

I've also heard good things about the Rock River , and they don't cost as much as some other customs I've priced out.

The ones ones I have held were excellent. They also make some very fine barrels. My Caspian has a Nowlin barrel in it. They do not advertise nearly as much as Wilson or Les Baer, but they are in the same league. They are a major sponsor of IDPA for what it is worth.

If I was going to pick between a Les baer and a Nowlin, I would take the Nowlin. From what I understand their frames and slides come from the same source as Wilsons.

I own a Les Baer and my Colt Commander has been completely reworked with Nowlin internals. I think both are excellent. I would lean towards the Nowlin if I bought another 1911 simply for the fact of being more unique for the same price. You can't go wrong with either gun. I would also look at Rock River Arms. They seem to have an excellent product for the money.
