Now It's Ready For Matches

I'm getting back into competitive bullseye shooting and have been using a Walther GSP .22 for the .22 stage. I had a Springfield Armory RO .45 and was using it out of the box for center fire and the .45 stages. For me, open sights are a struggle on the 50 yard line. I had my gunsmith do a great 3.5 lb trigger, full length guide rod, and install a Weigand mount to the frame for an UltraDot sight. Hopefully the 50 yard line won't be such low scores now.

I like your setup. My range is indoor, with a 35 yard limit. Yesterday, I was shooting a .22 Ruger Competition Target with a scope set at 7X. The 5/8 inch target at 25 yards was perfect. I switched to a SIG p210 9mm iron sights; couldn't even see the target dot. With a SIG X-6, I could see the 1 inch bull in a five inch target.

Been considering modifying all my guns for red dot, or scope. Red dots can sometimes (most times) be red blobs for me. However, if I guess well they're superior to iron sights. Plan to discuss the whole concept next month with my eye doctor.

The dot sight helps me in the rapid fire stage as you can look at the target. My scores with irons and dots @ the 50 are about the same.

Today I got to bench the gun with new red dot at 50 yards. I only had NRA 50 foot targets, but the gun shoots just over 4 inches at 50 yards. On a standard NRA 25 yard pistol target, the 9 ring is 5 1/2 inches, so I should be able to do much better than I was with open sights.

From John Dreyer's Bullseye.com pages:
The NRA Pistol Rules don't place many limits on the guns shooters may use. Trigger pull must be 2 lbs. on .22s and 3-1/2 lbs. on .45s. The sight radius of .45s can be no more than 10", while .22s can have a barrel length of no more than 10"

So 3.5# for conventional and
4 # is required for the HARDBALL matches

(From the BullseyeL forums on difference between wad and hardball:
For Hardball matches requirements:
The minimum trigger pull must not be less than 4#. The pistol may be internally accurized to include a match barrel, etc. The ammunition used must have a full metal jacketed bullet of a prescribed weight (230 grains for the .45 ACP).
