I am new to this website, for the reason of recently I inherited a black powder pistol but i dont know anything about guns. I am trying to figure out the caliber and what kind of powder i should get and what type of ammunition i purchase.

The Handgun is italian made and has two distinct markings on the guns chamber the image looks like a medieval shield with what looks to be two swords and the other is a star with PN under the star. I know this is not alot of information but any help will be appreciated.

Your wish is my command! ;)

By the way, the star with the PN underneath it is probably an Italian blackpowder proof mark.

Welcome to the fire enjglobe. Sit a spell and soak up the BP smoke.

Both of the symbols are Italian proof marks. Here is a link that will help you identify who made it and when.

You should also read gatofeo's "So you want a cap and ball revolver?" thread at the head of this forum. It's probably the most concise treatise on shooting C&Bs that you will find.

Finally, ask any questions you may have. The denizens of this and other Blackpowder forums will be glad to help you out.

If you can find a C&B shooter in your local area, follow them around and see what they do.
