Novak Lomount to Heinie rear - process?

Hello there, could anyone tell me the process that needs to be done to the slide to go from the Novak Lomount cut to the fixed Heinie rear sight? Is it substantial, cost wise? ...or is it easy? Thanks, EricO

EricO, the cut for the Novak is 65deg x .495". The cut for the Heinie is 65deg x .370. It might be possible to shim the Heinie base for the extra .125" (1/8") but I think it would be more feasible to solder in a blank to fill the old dovetail slot and recut it. I would think this would run you $60 minimum not including the sight. George

If the pistol in question is a 1911, you might want to consider replacing the slide. Colt slides are generally available, as are Baer, Caspian, McCormick/Wilson/Kimber, and others. You may be able to offset the cost by selling your Novak-sighted slide to someone who wants it.

Of course, if the pistol is a P-35, good luck (and a second mortgage) on finding a slide. In that case, one best just learn to like the Novak sight.
