Nova recoil reducer

Brought home a new Benelli Nova the other day. The dealer I bought it from has the recoil reducer, he's asking $19 for the bracket and $39 for the mercury reducer. Is this a fair price? I've done some web searching but didn't come up with much.
 
That's a good price for the reducer...

I paid about $20 for the bracket, but the reducer was being sold for $50+ I got the the extension, which I believe was a better value, if you want more rounds. The extension actually gives you an added THREE rounds in the tube if you're just using 2 3/4". I'm thinking of sending my barrel off to get choked, but I'm not sure if I'll have a problem, seeing as the barrel is thin and chrome lined.
 
I've got one in mine. Brownells lists those for $19.63 for the bracket and $43 for the 14 oz. mercury tube. Ask your dealer what the weight of the recoil reducer is - I recall there was a lighter one. It's a good addition and will your dealer install it if you buy it from him? It takes a very long/small head screwdriver to get it installed.
 
I'll probably go back and get it from him, even if it was a little higher than average I like to support the local guy when I can.
The ones he has are 14oz and marked Nova. He does have some lighter ones too.

Does the reducer make that much difference? I've only put one box of shells through the gun, all 2 3/4" + a couple of my 3" turkey loads. Couldn't tell any difference in recoil between the Nova and my 870.

I don't know if it makes "that" much of a difference. It did seem to reduce the felt recoil a bit - bit if it's $50 less is a call you'll have to make. See if you can find a friend with one that you can try out.
I'd like to get rid of the foreend rattles - that's a much bigger annoyance than the recoil ever was.
 
I've just returned from Benelli Shotgun Armorer school...one of the instructors said that if we shot 2 Novas side by side, one with and one without a recoil reducer, and could tell him which was which, he would be very surprised. He didn't recommend them.

Recoil is a VERY subjective issue though, and some may appreciate the difference.

Did they suggest anything to get rid of the rattles on the foreend of these shotguns at that school? It's a great gun, but that rattling around is annoying.
 
Rick...nope, no rattling fixes offered.
And in case anybody was wondering about the "M1 pistol-grip stock" for the Nova (a rumor I heard), Benelli has no plans for that at this time.
My dept. issues the ghost-ringed Nova loaded with slugs (w/ tactical buckshot available).

Just got back from the range, shot some clays with it. Can't say it's any harder recoiling than my 870, no more often than I'll be shooting 3 or 3 1/2" shells I think I can live with it as is.
Did impress myself with the way it shoots, never got that high a score with the 870 but maybe it was just a lucky night!
Do a search of this room for Nova and there are some suggestions for getting rid of the rattle. It inovlves putting the loop side of self-stick velcro on the slide. Tried it, it did reduce the ammount of rattle but also increased drag and slowed things down when working the action, I took it off
 
another way to reduce the rattle is to tighten the hexhead screws on either side of the foreend. it significantly reduced the play and noise on mine.
 
NotoS&W...by design they are supposed to be somewhat loose. If you are referring to tightening down the action bars, too much can lead to malfunctions with the bolt.
With the fore-end removed, if the action bars cannot "swing" from the fore-end, they're too tight.

TN-popo, you are exactly right. i meant to say that but forgot. thanks and i hope my omission didnt screw anyone up. BTW, i didnt have to tighten them too much and have never had any problems w/ the gun.
