Nova Question -- Extending the stock

I really like the looks/feel of the Nova. I've used it at the trap/skeet range and I can pick it up for $300. This will be my first shotgun. My only question is how can I extend the stock to fit me? Are there pads I can buy? Is there any way?

yes

There are several pads that can extend the length of pull. Have yourself measured by a gunsmith to find out what your measurements are. Then you will know how much you need to add and if the drop and comb of the stock will fit you. The stock may not be right for you to begin with. Then choose the recoil pad that will give the increase you need, I like the Simms Vibration pad myself. It gave me almost an inch of increase. If the stock doesn't fit, try to find a gun that has one that does. This will be a lot cheaper than having the stock cut to fit you or one shaped to fit you.

Good luck

You cut the stock you might as well throw the Nova away. The stock and reciever are one piece. You might find an aftermarket recoil pad that is thicker, but that's about it.

I'm 6-5 so I'm not cutting anything. I'm most likely going to need a big gun. Any idea how I can measure myself? Do I have to go to a gunsmith?

yes and no

A quick way of measuring yourself is to bend your forearm up to a 90 degree angle. Measure from the upperarm to the bent trigger finger. A smith has a measurer that does the same thing plus can measure you to see how much drop is needed.

On most shotguns you can add spacers between the recoil pad and stock. I had this done to an O/U that needed more length. Added 1.25 inches to LOP!

Usually you need longer stock screws to do this.

I know the Benelli pad comes off but not if you can get longer screws.

The main issue with the Nova is the inability to alter stock dimensions.

I would not depend on the forearm trick, most experts agree it will not give proper measurements.

A shotgun coach might be able to help, but they usually charge for stockfittings. Gunsmiths may or may not know how to measure for proper fit.

Some places use a try gun, which has a special stock that can be adjusted for LOP, Cast and several other measurements. Fittings usually go for $150 up and do not include alterations.

You can't get longer screws for the Nova because there are no screws. It just pops off and pops back in. Although I never could just get mine to "pop" anything, it's prying. There in there tight.

What a ****y design. I really like that gun, why did they make such a dumb decision?
