Not sure where to put this...

but with all this talk of an assault weapons ban, especially in my home state of Illinois, should I look into getting a Rock River Arms A2 or should I go ahead and buy the Ruger GP100 I was planning on getting this month for my 21st birthday?

And, do you guys really think this is coming? Where can I look up some reliable information on the subject?

You'd better look into what that ban entails. From what I've pieced together, there will be no grandfather clause; They'll confiscate and destroy the rifle. If this is correct, you'd be wasting money on an AR.

If I'm wrong and pre-ban rifles will be allowed, you shouldn't need anyone to tell you which decision is wiser.

Maybe I'm not up on the laws (now or in future)

but how could the government come and take your property with out at least paying you what the market value of it is? Forget that it is a gun that has been declaired illegal.... just your property.

If ill-e-noy does this I would seriously think about living someplace else.

Any and all talk of such things, are mere speculation at the moment. Nothing like this can happen until after the new Congress is sworn in.

One would think that the new democratic majority would remember what happened in '94... But, one could be wrong...

The Dems are not likely to waste political capital on gun control until after '08. For the next two years expect to see more social issue topics like raising the minimum wage. Their goal is putting a Democrat in the White House. They'll hold off on the really kooky socialist/communist agenda items until then. That gives you two years to build your inventory.

I have receipts, I sold all them to Illegal Aliens with a utility bill and a fake ID. :D

Fake ID told me his name was C. Schumer? It passed the NCIS? How did I know?:p

The government won't take any of my property, I will not let them EVER!!! This country was based on the freedom of rights for the citizens and if the government breaks those rights then they arn't being lawfully so i won't be either.

Well except for the IRS, they can take all they want.

If i do something wrong like not pay taxes or a dead beat dad or something along those lines (which im not) anyway if they try to outlaw all firearms and come to my house to destroy what i've spent my hard earned money on (I know my collection looks like pocket change for some of you but i've spent alot of money that i shouldn't have on guns) the last couple of years they can forget it they'll have a fight on their hands... I would say another waco but i didn't like how that turned out.

Kroyal,
This may not apply 100% to you, but I thought you might wanna read this.

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225552

It's a similar thread that dealt with confiscation and Rich Lucibella and I had a very extensive "disagreement" about a few things until i saw his point. You might wanna read it and I think you'll understand why I posted it for you.

On the same track, I can't say much for Illinois because they are way off track, but I do not see a "gun grab" happening anytime soon. The idea of swat-teams and and military groups busting into houses to seize law-abiding citizens firearms may seem like what the liberals want, but I'd be willing to bet quite a sum of cash, that they will not do it. Definitely not anytime soon.

The democrats may not be the brightest, but they definitely don't want to start a civil war. I'd guarantee that.

Yes i remember this thread i read along but didn't post in it. The subject of that thread was different though. If the police knocked on my door right now and said let us in we have a search warrant and found my guns and took them because i did something wrong or it was a misunderstanding i would let them... What i'm talking about if they (DEMS) just want to take everyones guns and we all get wind of it. I will know why they are there, it will be a different story... First i wouldn't open the door and when they busted it in they'd have a nice present waiting for them and so on and so forth... thats all i'm going to say about that i don't want to get the thread closed or me banned...

It's really not all that different actually considering the point of that thread was the cops busting in and seizing your weapons illegally. You are right though, let's not hijack this thread.

If you care to have a friendly debate though feel free to pm me anytime.:)

I wouldn't buy a ruger, that is for sure. Unless you are one of those honest sportsmen that don't need more than 10 rounds.:barf:

Get the Rock River.

There is a reason we have a Supreme Court.

I guess, to get back to the original question,

I'd get the 'assault' rifle while I could. It sounds like it might be harder down the road and you might need it one day.

And in my opinion there ain't a darn thing wrong with a Ruger mini (either)... one tough rifle that will outlast a lot of black, grey, green (choose your color) plastic rifles with all those knobs and such sticking out the sides, tops and bottoms.
