Not another snubbie

Years ago I was looking for a home defense gun. I had just gotten married and as most people just starting out, I was pretty much broke. Anyway a friend told me of a gentleman that had some handguns to sell. I went to his house one night and he started showing me what was for sale. The very first gun he brought out was a 2.5" Colt Python. I remember that it was a beautiful blue and how smooth the action was. However I thought it looked kinda wierd being a large frame and short barrel (young and dumb). So I turned that one down. I can't believe I snubbed the snubbie. LOL. The next gun up was a 4" model 15 Smith with Hogue rubber grips. Probably the most common gun made. Of course I bought that one. It's time to right the wrong.
So fast forward to 2013 time frame. Pythons in the 2.5" range have become very desirable and very expensive. Naturally I need one. I bid on several on the GB site but they all quickly went past my limit. By this time I am getting a little disappointed but decide to look on the Colt forum where I am also a memeber. I see the one! A 1963 2.5" blue Python for sale. The price was more than I had intended to pay , but it had everything going for it. First year the 2.5" barrel was offered and in excellent condtition. So It is in transit now . These pictures are from the sellers add. What do you think!:D

Sweet! I need a 2.5 or 3 to go with the 4, which gets carried on duty sometimes, and the 6. Just need to find the right one.

Awesome little revolver there.

Original bluing or has it been refinished by Colt? In either case it looks great.

Hope you didn't pay so much that it doesn't get to make it out of the safe much. You seem to have wanted one for so long, and it is probably such a good shooter that it begs to be shot.

If I owned one I would intend to keep it forever, and try to forget what it cost in the first place. Shoot it, carry it, and if the perfect bluing ever became significant enough to have a problem with it, have the gun refinished by Colt. Regardless of what it does to the value, I would keep it forever so that makes it less relevant.

I bought a similar 2 1/2" python on the Coltforum. I love the gun but feel guilty about it. The seller was disposing of his beloved collection to help out with his nephews cancer treatment. 2nd amendment notwithstanding, its a shame we live in a society with a reverse lottery healthcare system. These big insurance companies have us all divided and conquered.

Python

I am pretty sure it is all original. The seller was very upfront about the condition as it has some blue wear on the cylinder from improper storage and some freckling on the bottom of the trigger guard. The original pictures are a little clearer than these. The rollmarks appear very sharp and so does the rampant colt. I could not detect any dishing around the screws, so the best I could tell it is the original finish. When I actually have it in hand I will be able to tell more about it of course. The other thing is I did a search on all the post done by the seller on the CF and he has sold a lot of Pythons and seems to know his stuff. The grips are numbered to the gun. It will be shot some but lovingly taken care of . LOL :D

Python

Here is the add from CF. After re reading and looking at the original photos, I have no doubt it is the original finish. Well taken care of obviously. Looks great for a 50 yr old firearm.

First year production Python, 2 1/2 inch blue. Serial number 299XX, 1963. All original. The stocks are numbered to the gun. First year fit and finish is amazing. Overall condition of this gun is excellent. It had some rust under the stocks and very slight freckling under the trigger guard. It has a rubbed area on one portion the cylinder, possibly caused by sliding around in a box. Mechanically it is perfect. Trigger is glass smooth. Additional photos if needed.:D

Python

Very nice, I love the Python. Sorry to say that when I became Disabled I needed money and had to let a few guns go. I hope to one day replace it, it was a E series 4" blue. When times get hard the guns are first to go. (sorry to say)
