Hey, i was on a hunting trip with a friend of mine and just want to share it with you guys.
We started out Monday morning at about 8 AM. We were going to walk about 3 miles to get to our hunting cottage, wich we was going to use as our base for 3 days. Tht walk was supose to take about 1 hour, but after about 15 minutes we scared up 2 grouse. My friend got of two shots after them, i couldnt take a safe shoot before they got to far of. After that our minds went into hunting mode. We hunted them for about 30 minutes before we found them again and, again, it was my friend who got to shoot two shots after them. We didnt have the luck with us that time either but we had seen game and our motivation rose. Around 11 AM we got to the cottage and took a 30 min breake before we started the walk to the higher parts of the area were we would hunt smal-game. We saw about 30 grouse during that day but most of them either flew too far or into Sweden were we was not alowed to hunt (they semed to know that). We only bagged one of them, my friend was the shooter. We hunted for about five houers before we found a tiny lake were we took lunch and fished. We grilled hot-dogs and made coffe on the fire. The lunch lasted for about 2 houres and on the walk back we saw two more grouse in the thick brush but it was to dense to hit any thing. It took about one houre to get back to the cottage. That day i got some soar feet from walking in to big boots but we later solved this problem with some bandaid and a paire of extra socks. We just kicked back intill about 10 PM when my buddy made us moos stake that we had with us. Full of moose we got to bed. It was a good day.
We got up around 8 the next morning and ate breakfast before we started walking around 9. we had seen alot of game the day before so we agreed to hunt in the same area. The day started out quiet but sudently a paire of grouse flew of just in front of us. My buddy bagged them both. A little later we went up to mauntain top just to chek out the view and take some photos when we saw three grouse on the rocks. When they flew my friend got one and i hit one but it flew about 200 feet befor it hidd and we had to walk all around that top. After a while we found the uninjured grouse walking among the rocks ang guess what,m my buddy got that one too. Lucky for me, we finaly found the last grouse and finished it of against a rock. That saved my day. Around 5 PM we stopped for "lunch", again, hot-dogs and coffe. On our way back my buddy said as a joke "Its sitting a grouse in under that spruce, i`ll walk over and scare it out and you can shoot it" I bearly belived my eyes when a big grouse came flopping out under that spruce and he bagged it. We got back and around 9 PM we had newly cought trout for dinner. We went to bed after about two houres of talking about anything and evrythin.
The next morning we got up at 8 and was finish with the breakfast and the cleaning of the cottage around 9. We walked along the Swedish/Norwegian border for 4 houers to get up to a hill-top to hunt ther. Suddenly 2 grouse flew up we got one, then two more and two more, it was kaos, we got 3 birds in about 4 minnutes. After that we met another friend of ouers and his cousin (he is Swedish). All of us walked on a line to cover more ground but sudenly two shots was heared from the end of the line and a cloud of dust and shotgun pellets flying around our ears, it was the swedish guy who had fired in the direction of the rest of the line. We cheked that evrybody was okay before me and my buddy went on our way as far away from the Sweed as posible.
We got down to the lower grounds again where we had lunch for about 1 houer before we walked back to the car and went home.
In total we got 13 grouse and 3 trout (the trout got eaten the second day)
We walked about 6,5 miles evry day with around 12 kilo backpacks.
The last day we had around 25 kilo backpacks full of grouse and all our cloths.
This is the type of hunt i like where you live without any of the covenience of this modern world. I like to harvest from the nature while being in the nature. The walking, Fresh-air and the stress free enviroment is in it self worth the trip, add hunting small game to it and you have a perfect day.
