Northern California Gun Shops

I have a week of leisure before starting a new job and I thought I'd visit some of the better gun shops in Northern California. How about some recommendations for the area within about 150 mile radius of San Jose. My specific interests are .22LR rifles and handguns, US military arms, Colt, Winchester, High Standard, Springfield. TIA.

175 miles north of San Jose on Highway 101 is Ukiah. At 50 Orr Springs Road you will find Quality Firearms, and the proprieter Don Smith. Its a hole in the wall, but pretty well stocked. Tell Don Jeff sent you.

Uh, sorry Dalpra, you are in firearms hell. Expect to see the most ridiculously high prices in your life.

With that in mind, the only deals I have come across are at the gun shows in Vallejo, Pleasanton, and San Mateo. Traders Sports in El Cerrito seems to have the most competive prices. Sorry, but unfortunately "I don't know my way to gun stores in San Jose", let us know what you find. Buy your ammo online or reload. Most gun stores in the Bay Area charge $16 for a box of generic 9mm fmj. $20-22 for generic .45 and so on. Some ranges like Bay Point out in Concord have good prices on Ammo. Good luck and stock up.

Are you interested in San Jose itself? If you are than there is National Shooting club in Santa Clara, Gun Exchange off of Alamaden Exp, Reeds Sport shop of alum rock. Just a few off the top of my head. Let me know if you need help finding these, I will gladly show you.

Thanks, markd. These are all my regular haunts. I was looking for shops outside of the immediate SJ area.

Try Imbert & Smithers on El Camino Real in San Carlos. They're "competitive", meaning their prices are just as outrageous as anywhere else in the bay area, but I got good service, and they seemed pretty well-stocked.

dalpra - Outside SJ, but within the radius you mentioned -

Livermore - American Outdoor Sports Supply.

Pleasanton - Outdoor World (they keep a surprising number of handguns in stock).

Dublin - Wayne's Guns (Too pricey, IMO... lot's of consignment stuff and some militaria that's fun to browse.)

Martinez - Canyon Sports (My favorite. They don't keep a lot of stock on hand, but have tracked down things I couldn't find elsewhere. Good people.)

WOW! A 150 mile radius. That's a lot of territory.

You can try Contra Costa Collectible Firearms, Walnut Creek, CA for some sometimes interesting old guns. Lots of pretty Colts and old S&Ws. I think they'll be at the Cow Palace gunshow this weekend (usually are), so you could kill two birds with one shot.
