The "Democratic States of America" and the "Republican States of America". Oh, if I could only see 200 years into the future.

Just a thought.

Actually, the split is far more between the urban areas and the rural areas. States with larger cities were dragged to Gore, where states with smaller populations in the cities went Bush. It'd be really interesting if folks in the country stopped sending stuff into the cities for a few days...

This is so very true. Think about the original spirit of the country and the colonists. They lived in a large populated area (at least for that day) in Britan. They moved here to be FREE and to roam about the land as they pleased. Of course we congregated into cities, but they still had the same spirit. It was all the same generation.

After we won our flag, the next generation was told the story by their fathers. And the next by their grandfathers. Soon it was all about moving west and fighting between the north and the south.

After most of the dust settled, it was all about gold and the industrial revolution. The wars were fought in far off lands, not on our own plots of land... somewhere we forgot why we were here.

Then technology, mass media, "Must-See-TV", sitcoms, and Jerry Springer came about and all was lost.

The irresponsible multiply quickly. We were once bound by "these truths"- that we are a nation bound and obligated by God, and we are free only because we have fought for it. Somewhere we lost all that.

Those outside metro areas *tend* to still lead "simple" lives. Working their land, and serving thier faith in a higher power. Those in the big cities are generally fighting for 'themselves' in the rat race. It's not for a cause as noble as farming your land and keeping your faimly intact, it's all about advancing up some ladder.

Something WILL happen in the future though for the simple fact: Metro areas and highly populated states have large populations, and lots of individual votes, but are generally of a single mindset. But Bush won the majority of STATES. That is, more INDIVIDUAL REPUBLICS requested Bush for leadership. These states simply will not tolerate it if the populated areas are allowed to make all the descistions for them, just beause there are skyscrapers full of people and not wheat fields dotting the land.

Why did the "people" in the "We The People" get rid of the Articles of Confederation?? BECAUSE THEY WANTED LESS CENTRALIZED GOVERNMENT. They wanted to be a Union of States- individual in their own way, however they descided to be drawn together in a union to pool thier strenghts- NOT to elect officials to take over the whole lot of them. Those in rural areas who still have a spirit of freedom understand this, but they are small and less populated.

I could go on and on... but the more the nation is split- and it's clearly split right down the middle- the more chance we have of each side going off to do their own thing appart from the whole. Just like sniveling children, when neither gets their way (like our gov't this time around), both will stop off in opposite directions yelling "Fine!".

-My votes worth.

I just think it's worth noting that the South and the West (notably excepting CA) stood firm in their beliefs, and by doing so allowed all the northern hunters (who voted with their local union for Gore) to keep their deer and duck guns for at least four more years. This statement may be a day or two premature, I hope the Dems can't figure out a way to stuff in a few more votes in FL with everybody watching.

JWR...
FYI, California is subject to the same influences outlined for other states; i.e large metro areas negating the rest of the state.
My county (San Luis Obispo, midway between LA and SF) was solid Bush. The same for the majority of other counties.
BTW, please explain New Mexico

DC,
a talking head on CNN said it was the Hispanic vote.
(I have no idea!)

It's interesting to note the states that recognize the CHL of Texas - every contiguous state but NM. Hmmm.

Also, cars with TX plates frequently are vandalized in NM. Hmmm.

This just in:

The Civil War race, previously awarded to the North, has just been designated "too close to call" by CNN.

Ledbetter ;)
