North American Hunting Club

Either this is a great piece of snail mail spam, or it might actually be a useful organization. It came and contains literature starting out with, "Congratulations on your nomination!". It also came with a red sticker of the club, a white sticker of a deer, mail labels with my address for return envelopes with various wildlife on it...
Anyway, they claim that periodically you will receive items such as a free rifle or bow to try, a rain suit, or even a box for ammo, or any hunting related items of which may come and I would try, write a report on the product and would be mine to keep. Now of course anything to good to be true probably is, but at only $12 a year, certainly someone here must be a member - its a pretty good piece of pitch. So the question is, have any members received anything at all from these folks? Is this just a total scam?

Their return address is:
North American Hunting Club
12301 Whitewater Dr.
Minnetonka, MN
55343

Thanks for any info you have - :)

As soon as you send your money, they will start sending books and videos. In order to "field test" items you have to fill out a separate form ( they won't mention that fact). Most of the items tested are cheap little gadgets, very few guns or bows. You will get tons of mail wanting you to buy something. When you go to cancel, it is a hassle like no other you will ever experience. They magazine they put out isn't too bad.
All based on my experience with NAHC.

I wasn't impressed with them I was a member for a couple of years, and Besides the magazine, everything else they sent was junk. Never recieved trial stuff,(didn't know about the seperate form)

Most of the stuff they send you is crap to test, you would probably have to be a life member and donate every time they ask for money to get a rifle or bow. I've been billed for a book I never received, the shipping box was empty and resealed by the Post Office even kept the box and told NAHC about it but they didn't beleive me. I wound up paying for the book to keep my butt out of collections now I just send everything right back that they send.

I don't mind the magazine but the big game generally deals with white tail deer and I don't hunt them. In my neck of the woods Mule deer and Elk are the norm. I will not renew when my year is up.

Thirty years ago, they had a come-on about places to hunt. What they did in Texas was lease ranches that were cheap because there weren't many deer on them. Over-grazed junk land. Next thing you know, there are hunters all over every ranch around, with a line of, "But they told us this is NAHC land!"

Some years back I wound up on their mailing list. Same old story as posts above. Hassles over stuff I never ordered, for instance, even after I'd done the cancel-thing when they first sent me the magazine. I got a couple of harassing phone calls from somebody in the outfit.

Puredee garbage.

I am a NAHC member, have been for years. Even though I signed up to be a field tester, I have never actually tested an item. I only received one book from them, and I called them and told them I would not pay for it or pay to send it back, so they sent a UPS call tag. Their magazine is pretty good, but deals mainly with whitetail and bear hunting. Since I live out west, this does me little good. They have been listening, and over the past five years there have been more articles on western hunting. The coats, packs and other stuff they want to sell you is overpriced, and you can buy better stuff from Cabela's for less money. Good part is that you can tell them to stop sending you offers.

North American Hunting & Fishing clubs

Marvelous scam for the operators! Wish I'd thought of it!

All of the above comments re free junk to review and overpriced merchandise apply here too.

I feel the magazine is junk also--the articles were VERY basic, and a lot of the magazine was devoted to hunts to trade with other people. Since I already understand the basics of hunting, and I have no hunts to trade, there wasn't much in it for me.

Can't remember how I got the first magazine--I definitely did NOT send this outfit any money, nor would I ever.

I see their stickers on the pickup trucks of others, and occasionally ask them how do they like the club, and usually the people who are willing to display the stickers like the club. But for the life of me I can't see why. De gustibus non dispudatum est, I guess. (Of [matters of] taste there is no dispute.)

Now that I think about it, they got me in a (IMO) shady way. I bought my hunting license one year, on the bottom there was a offer for hunting knife for a dollar. I called the # and they required a cc to pay the dollar. A while later I looked a little closer and saw it was also for a 6 month trial subscription to NAHC. I thought "no big deal, I'll try them for 6 mos.". Once they had my cc info, they just kept renewing. Ended up canceling the card.

Same story, different day...   I had to get the Texas State Attorney General's office involved. They sent me crap I didn't solicite. They tried to file on my credit. To make a long story short, I sent them and the Texas State Attorney General's office a letter. That finally stopped all the nonsense. Now if you look close at the fine print, by joining their organization, you AGREE TO LET THEM SEND YOU STUFF...pretty damn sneaky. I got some of their fishing garbage 6 mos back or so, and knowing their past history, I read all the fine print. They're a bunch of !#@$% @#@%^ 2#5 @$%$# @%$@ and so forth...

I've always believed that if it sounds too good to be true, it is. After reading the previous posts I'm glad I never signed up. The return address labels are handy, but that's it. I also got similar one from American Handyman Association or something like that because I work in construction. They had pictures of a bunch of junk Kmart style tools. I didn't sign up.

I was an NAHC member for a couple of years. The mag was okay, but that's about it. As far as I can tell they don't do much other than fleece you for money. For what it's worth, you're probably better off spending the money on NRA membership.

I got the same thing with North American Fishing Club. It was ok. Magazines weren't anything great. I got 2 large patches from them and some really cheap fishing tackle. Mostly I got hooks, splitshots and a few other little things. They sent me a little postcard to renew, I just threw it away and haven't heard from them since. That was last summer.
I wouldn't waste your time. Go with Field & Stream, much better magazine with good articles.
