North American Hunters Club

Does anyone know anything about this club...better yet, is anyone a member?

I'm sure it's a result of my NRA membership, but I was sent an invitation to join, and they talk about all the benefits of membership, which includes:

-a few gifts for joining (two hunting knives, a hunting DVD, and a cookbook for hunters)
-the oportunity to try all sorts of hunting gear for your evaluation (and keep it for free)
-a subscription to their magazine

There's more, but that's the main stuff. The dues are only $12/year, and the gifts alone are worth more than that, but is this a legit thing??? Seems like a "too good to be true" situtation.

Thanks for you input!

They try to "bait" you into becoming a lifetime member after a short period. IMO, not worth it. However, I see alot of "Lifetime Member" decals on trucks so opinions will differ. For sure more credible than Buckmasters.

North American Hunt Club is nothing more than a variation of the the old book and tape clubs that get you hooked then send you junk and billings on a regular basis. Use to send me books and tapes, when I refused to buy they wanted the items sent back and me to pay the return postage.

I'm a life member, have been for about 12 years....got a compass to test once (Whoooopee!). Magazine is about 75% advertisements....not worth the time to read.

One of those decisions I regret.

I also am a life member. I don't regret it, but it has not been "as advertised" either.

My "test item" was some oversized baby-wipes in a camo pack - Wow, rocked my world

I did get them to stop sending me stuff that I had to send back if I didn't want it by writing on the return invoice "DO NOT SEND UNSOLICITED ITEMS". Maybe I just got lucky. It was for a freakin deer sculpture that was hideous, and was big enough that I had to haul it to the P.O. to return.

My buddy actually buys a lot of their stuff. It is good quality, but costs more than a comparable item from another source.

Mag is OK for light reading, but not as informative as a lot of others.

By federal law, anything in the mail that is addressed to you that you did not order is yours. There is no obligation to pay for it nor to return it. "Hey, thanks a lot, stupid!"

I also don't like the magazine. It isn't very informative and very misleading. I remember seeing one ad on the front about the ultimate varmit caliber or something like that and then talking about the caliber it basicaly said get what you like and didn't say one caliber.

I got them to stop sending me things by waiting several months after getting the product and bill before sending it back. They sent me a letter saying they would not send me anything else.

The into letter did mention that you could let them know if you didn't want to receive any of the books or videos to "consider" for purchase, but it sounds like being a member is more hassle than it's worth. I guess the free stuff you get when you sign up is still tempting, but I should probably resist that and take your advice...

I've been a life member for a long time, and I will say it was not one of better decisions. The magazine is mostly about their staff hunting whitetail deer back east, very little about hunting western game animals.

I'm actually for it. It isn't a club and you won't get anything cool to try out, its just a magazine subscription for $12. If you like the mag, its a good one to join, if you don't then its not. The free gifts don't come with your subscription, you have to pay shipping and handleing to get them after you join. But the truth is I love the magazine. I get F&S, Outdoor Life, Petersons, and this one. Every issue I have has articles on hunting bear, elk, moose, Africa, all kinds of fun stuff. Just check out the mag, if you like it subscribe. If you don't like the mag, then don't join because there's nothing else to this "club".:D

I am a member, and I didn't do a life membership. But, they do keep reupping me every year for free. Other then that I get nothing out of them but some junk mail from time to time, maybe a spam e-mail that I don't really care about.

I was a member for a few years when they first started - sent me a nice "Charter Member" certificate.....wow.....was living out West then, and stopped when all the articles were about midwest deer hunting....wasn't impressed...

It's a scam...

And a great one, FOR THE OWNERS. For the customers, not so good. As to "product testing," they get 10,000 little bottles of gun oil (for example) and send 'em out, and you're supposed to do some kind of comparison test, write up the results, and send your writeup back in. The only ones they publish are the rave reviews. And just how much different can one ordinary gun oil be from all the other ordinary gun oils on the market?

One subscriber wins the lottery--he gets (for example) a Remington 700 to test. What is his write-up going to tell you that you don't already know about the Remington 700?

The free trial magazine itself I read through. It contained really elementary advice about deer hunting, and was mostly concerned with advertising, and with having hunts to swap. IF I owned a fancy hunting lodge, and IF I wanted to hunt somewhere else than out of my lodge, somehow I think I could arrange a swap without advertising in a magazine.

Bottom line: If you like the magazine, well & good, subscribe and enjoy. Don't expect much in the way of free stuff, nor unbiased product information, and you will not be disappointed.

BTW, there is also a North American Fishing Club, run by (surprise!) the same outfit.

It's the biggest wad of crap you'll ever get...I had to get the TX state attorney generals office involved after they kept sending me crap unsolicited in the mail...after a while, I got fed up and they reported it to the credit bureau. Knowing it was illegal to do what they were doing, I wrote a serries of nasty letters, and CC'd the TX state attorney generals office. They sent some nice correspondence to them and me, and it was over, and the credit reporting was corrected. now they disclose they will send you crap (unlike before - early 90's) and that's how they get away with it. They sent books and some other garbage that wasn't worth a flying flip...Anyway, I feel they are violating the deceptive trade act by their current advertisement that you get to try stuff out. It's all a marketing gimmick, and quite frankly,

I THINK THEY SUCK![/SIZE]

I thought the magazine was redundant info to the magazines I had already been getting. The member/ life member events are not something I would do anyway. I'm staying with the NRA.

I was a "Charter Member" way back in the day. Still have the patch on my hunting vest. They were going to have land availabe for members to hunt on. I think they had 2500 acers or so up in Michigan, or Minnesota, or one of those icebox states. In theory members could hunt there. Someone may actually have for all I know, I never bothered to even think about it. The magazine was "ok" at best. I don't recall getting any junk from them, but it was a long time ago, and all those groups sort of blend together.

For ten, twelve bucks a year, the magazine is worth it I guess. Toss it in the reading room and leave it there.

Years ago I joined for one year...then last fall I decided to join again for 3 years-I have refused their offers to become a Lifetime member.

For joining I get the magazine, which I like, and two knives (I actually needed these and two good knives are worth more than the membership/subscription. Also an orange backpack for my grandson to use hunting. For $36.00 I think the magazine, knives and backpack are worth it-they paid the postage.

Another reason I joined was I wanted to begin getting in touch with hunters in the midwest, as I hope to move there again in the next 12-24 months (The Lord willing of course).

I did receive one of their books, but I sent it back-they paid the postage. It came with a note to tell them I do not want to review any others and they have been true to their word.

I have received an item to test, yes it's little, some type of glowing pins that clip to branches so you can follow your trail if you are tracking a downed animal in the dark. Looks like a good idea. But, I do wonder who are the folks that get to try new boots, binoculars, firearms etc.? I really could use a good pair of boots with 200-400 grams of insulation.

They claim leased land for hunting. I have never heard of anyone that is not a celebrity that has hunted on their alledged properties. My read of them is ...rip off. I would not put their sticker on my vehicle for any reason unless it was a pass into their leased lands. But then, I don't put any kind of advertising on my vehicles unless it is advertising me.

Trial membership

I received a mailing sometime back that offered a free trial membership. Like most people I saw FREE and said why not. After a few issues (no free stuff) of their magazine they stopped sending me the magazine and starting sending me letters trying to guilt me into a paid membership. The letters said things like:

"If you were at hunting camp you would wan't everyone to pull their own weight right? Why are you not pulling yours? Don't be the guy who comes to camp and does nothing. Get your membership, etc, etc, etc."

I just didn't like the general tone of the letter of how they tried to market the whole thing. Seemed like they were running a scam. So I called them to "cancel" my trial membership and spent ten minutes on the phone with some college kid trying to convince me I was making the worst decision of my life. He finally agreed to cancel everything. I got off the phone and felt like I just went through a three year divorce.

Im a life member and well worth it. Its a great club and the magazine is excellent as well as the benifits they offer. And as far as field tests. I have gotten some pretty cool stuff to try and keep. The most recent is a hitch aligner that retails for about $60.00 so im ahead of the game. I have a nice fillet knife from buck they sent also. Yes, You do get little odds and ends now and then but their FREE and if you dont like them throw them out. I dont care about land they have because I hunt my own and their membership hunts are great and innexpensive options for the working mans budget. They also offer a section for swap hunts or fishing trips between members. Hmmm, sounds pretty good to me for the price they charge. If you dont want something dont get it.(or send it to me):D
