North American Arms "Guardian"

One of the pocket pistols in my little collection is a NAA Guardian. Normally, both me and it liked the Fiocchi FMJ or the SJHP. Then the new .32ACP Cor-Bon's came out. My pistol jammed on the first (and very short) batch. When Cor-Bon came out with the longer version, like everybody else, I wanted some. I think it's probably the hottest .32ACP made. However, even though they didn't just hit my Guardian's feed ramp and jam, when I ejected a chambered round the bullet setback was so bad that, at first, I thought something was wrong with my calipers! However, I ejected a second chambered round and it was even worse! I was afraid to fire my Guardian with a setback problem this bad. So, I sent it back to the NAA factory in Utah. When they say "lifetme guarantee" they mean it. A week and a half later, my Guardian came home. The first thing I noticed was that the loaded magazine set higher when it was inserted. Now, the cartridges just barely touch the feed ramp before the slide shoves them into the firing chamber. I measured, loaded, and then ejected some cartridges and measured them again with my calipers. No change in length at all. NAA did a good job and they stand behind their lifetime guarantee. I'm happy with their service.
My Guardian is a pretty accurate little pistol. After carrying my Kel-Tec P-32 for a while, the Guardian seemed heavy. I took care of this problem by purchasing a Hedley back pocket holster. When I carry my Guardian in my back pocket in that great holster, it seems a LOT lighter.

Now you've got me curious! I wish I took note of where the rounds sat in mine before it was worked on.

I was having occasional feeding problems, and a magazine had cracked on my Guardian. Mine was an older version (pre stainless steel grip screws). I sent it in to NAA and it came back rebuilt from almost the ground up. New springs, hammer, trigger bar, magazine release, grip screws, stray tooling marks polished off (even under the slide), several new magazines, about 4# less trigger pull, and a heck of a lot smoother pull. Sheesh! All they SAID they were going to do was polish the feedramp a little (they did that too-looks like glass now) and replace the magazine. Gotta love NAA customer service!

I challange KelTec to do for P32 owners what NAA does for us!

When I bought my Guardian, old style, used and abused and almost nonfunctional, I sent it to them and they DID rebuild it from the ground up. The only original part I got back was the (serialnumbered) lower reciever.

Total cost: Overnight Shipping.

I carry my Guardian in the house
I carry my Guardian with my spouse
I carry my Guardian in the woods
I carry my Guardian because of hoods

And if .32 seems awfully small
It's certainly better than no Guardian at all.

My Guardian is my "always" gun. No matter what cannon I may be leaving behind in the safe, it is always in my back pocket. I like it so much, I even pampered it by getting one of those sharkskin holster that NAA sells.

BTW, do you think that NAA would send me some new SS hexhead grip screws if I tell them I overtorqued one and sheared the head off of it?

MrMisanthrope - Kel-tec will do just as good as NAA, KY Rifle can relate his recent experience with sending in his P-32 recently for an upgrade.

Alamo is right!

The only difference is that my P-32 was having no problems. However, I did realize that the recoil spring was too weak early on. Other than a stronger spring, I wanted cosmetic things done to my hard chrome P-32. It really is special now. (Gray grip frame, silver trigger shoe, hard chrome pocket clip, and one of the new smooth hard chrome extractors [That just looks better!]) The surprising thing was that Kel-Tec did all the above PLUS replace ALL internals and springs and in addition send me two new magazines. And the thing that knocked me out was that I sent them my pistol on wednesday and received it back on FRIDAY, OF THE SAME WEEK!!!! And the thing that blew me away was when I opened the bill for all that KT had done. It said: Bal. -0-, Nada, Zip, Gone With The Wind. I didn't owe a cent!!!!!!!!!! My jaw hit the floor.
Now that is above and beyond!!!

Very Cool Kentucky. I didn't think Kel-Tec would be up to the chalange. I'm glad to see it is. VERY good marketing policy IMHO...

Logansdad: I'm sure they would. I certainly don't see why not anyway. Just give them a call. I know that if you over torqued it to such an extent that you couldn't remove it that they would certainly fix it if you sent it in... OTOH, why dor you need Hex-heads? Mine has SS slot-heads and had no issues. don't need a hex to strip then either.

My grip screws aren't Stainless?! Now I feel like I'm missing out. Honestly, with the Texas Summer setting in, they have started rusting on me when I carry back-pocket.

jwise, I bought a set of two SS hexhead screws from the NAA web store when they had them on monthly special ($5/set). They are $10/set regularly. They come with a set of rubber washers that solve the grip screw loosening problem I had with the blue slotted screws and a hex wrench. My blued screws are also rusted pretty badly in the slot.

Wish I could find some acceptable SS-HH machine screws at the hardware store. Anybody got any leads on this?

MrMisanthrope: I just love the look of HH screws. BTW, did you get your slotted SS screws from NAA?

Look, I don't know how this always happens to me....

..but I CALLED NAA and told whoever answered that
I was woried about my grip screws rusting and the
reply was, "No problem". A few days later I got
three sets of stainless screws: slotted head, hex
head, and something else. I even got the little
allen wrench. Everything was free. When the "anti
shoot loose" screws came out, they just sent me a
set.
People like me.:p

Guardian SS HH screws

Just to confirm the idea that NAA does right by you, one of the screws I ordered did not tighten properly when I installed the new Hogue grips from one of their monthly specials. The head was badly formed but that's not easy to tell just by looking, the cavity is very small, a plus on the side of appearance.

They had a new set to me in a few days. The gun looks terrific.
