norinco model 213 9mm (hammer issue)

Having issues with my norinco model 213 9mm.

Main problem im having is with the hammer.

The hammer doesn't always stick when push back and its even harder to make it stick to the half cocked mode
Sometime, more and more often when I pull the slide back the hammer undoes itself and uncocks the hammer . Even when putting a round in a chamber. This happens with the safety on and off. But luckily the firearm did not discharge when pulling the slide back, doing so even with one in the chamber and safety off

This is my first firearm and intent to carry it for personal protection. And new to handguns Any help and advice especially on how to fix the hammer issue would be very much appreciated.

Also I brought this gun brand-new and hammer was working fine when first brought it 1 month ago since then i have only fired it once as a test, which when well. financially i am not in a position to buy another so again if there you can help I would very much appreciate it.

As you can image the last thing I would want is an accidental discharge or it not working when needed.

Anyways thank you for reading and hope you can help.

Andy.

How did you buy this gun? A local shop, armslist, Gunbroker? I also would look into a return if its from a store. If not then you may need a gunsmith to look it over, did you disassemble or take the gun apart at all?

I feel obliged to point out, it isn't a great option for carry due to the location and operation of the safety.

I'm no gunsmith, and my suggestions should be taken for what they're worth, but it sounds like it would have to do with the hammer/sear engagement. What you need to do first is make sure the hammer pack is clean, and if its still having issues either buy a new hammer and replace it, or (the best option) take it to a gunsmith and have it checked out by a professional.

Give this a read.

I'd bet your Norinco Tokarev clone has a mis-manufactured hammer (sear notch cut too shallow or hammer not heat treated properly).

There are a couple Tokarev hammers on ebay right now with cheap buy it now prices and free shipping.

A buddy of mine talked me out of the gun but I had the same pistol. I converted my 9mm Norinco Tokarev to 7.62x25 by replacing the barrel, barrel bushing, and magazine with surplus parts.

The safety on my Norinco had been removed by the previous owner.

If I were you, I'd try buy another complete hammer pack. With my luck I'd loose a spring or pin when taking it apart...

Never bought from this company but they have parts for sale pretty cheaply: http://www.ssporters.com/tokarev-gun-parts-s/165.htm

There is finally a company who makes a grip for Tokarev pistols that stops hammer bite:

Thanks for all the reply's, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I cannot return the gun because it was a one time deal. Don't laugh but I paid $1100 dollars for it because I live in Somalia and work part of the government and as you may know there are a terrorist group here (al shabab) hell bent on killing anyone working with the government. Anyway there ain't any gunsmiths here but I do have a friend who is very experienced who I will be visiting in about a month who will take it apart for me. Any advice for him? Also parts here are very hard to get and almost impossible for a Chinese tokarov. Anyway thanks again for reading. And any help and advice is highly appreciated

One thing I forgot to mention is that the gun still fires while the hammer is half cocked. So any Ideas on what to to do? Thangs again

Hi, Andy,

The gun is defective, and you don't want to carry it.

I am familiar with the tokarev. Sounds like the pistol has a worn sear or full cock notch. The hammer tends to slip off the full cock notch and lands on the half cock notch a lot, so much so that eventually it busted the half cock notch.

The easiest fix is to replace the whole sear/hammer pack. It doesn't have to be a norinco; any tokarev pack will work, Russian, Romanian, Yugoslavian, polish. Whatever you can find.

If the whole pack is not possible, at least you will need a new hammer and/or a sear. But you will need somebody who knows how to replace those parts out of the pack. It is not hard, but definitely not trivially easy.

I wish you were here, and I can do it for you real quick. I pray for your safety and hope you will soon have your pistol fixed. Let us know if we can be of any help.

Thank you tangdima

Thanks tangdima. You've helped me understand what the problem is. I will be sure not to carry it until the problem is fixed. Haha I also wish you were here as to show me how its done. Anyway I will tell me friend what u told me and try to look for a new hammer and sear. Hopefully I will be able to find it. Anyway you've been a great help and i will keep you informed on how it goes. Thanks again mate.
